Netflix is officially ready for another bite of the French shark thriller. Under Paris 2. Variety reports that the sequel has moved into production in the sunny south of France. So, get ready for another round of toothy terror.

A City Still Submerged

The sequel picks up three years after the disastrous Paris triathlon bloodbath. The center of the capital remains completely underwater thanks to those mutated sharks. Sophia and Adil reunite for a high-risk mission in the shark-infested Seine. They are tracking Lilith, the original predator responsible for the carnage. They soon discover that the deadly wildlife hides a much more surprising reality.

A Creature Expert

Alexandre Aja takes the reins as director for this watery sequel. He famously directed Piranha 3D and the alligator horror Crawl, so he definitely knows his way around animal terrors. Original director Xavier Gens remains on board as a co-writer and associate producer. Aja admitted he always wanted to make a shark movie set in Paris. This opportunity allows him to delve significantly deeper into the abyss.

The first film, Under Paris, has been watched over 102 million times since its 2024 debut. And it is the second-most-popular non-English film on the platform. Needless to say, it’s a reminder that people still love a good shark movie.

The Original Cast Returns

There are no replacements here; a school of stars from the original is returning. That includes Bérénice Bejo, Nassim Lyes, Guillaume Gouix, and Philippe Bas.

What to Expect

So, what can you expect from Under Paris 2? Expect more high-stakes tension as the City of Light becomes a literal fish tank. Stay tuned for more updates as the production continues to swim forward. In the meantime, head over to Netflix and watch the original, but first, sink your teeth into the first film’s trailer.
