The Duffer Brothers are officially graduating from Hawkins, Indiana, and elders in the desert and heading straight to the multiplex. Variety reports that Matt and Ross Duffer, the masterminds behind “Stranger Things,” have officially set their first feature film. And it will be under their massive, four-year exclusive deal with Paramount. Fresh off wrapping up their flagship Netflix hit and delivering their second acclaimed series, “The Boroughs,” the duo are parting ways with the streaming giant’s movie division to focus on old-school cinematic spectacles.
The studio has locked in a wide theatrical release date of November 3, 2028, for the yet-to-be-titled project.
Plot Under Wraps (Naturally)
In classic Hollywood fashion, specific plot details are being guarded more fiercely than a government laboratory. What we do know is that the project is being developed under the Duffers’ Upside Down Pictures banner, which they run alongside company president and producing partner Hilary Leavitt.
A New Era at Paramount
While Netflix might have put them on the map, Paramount secured the duo’s exclusive talents with a mandate to do what they do best: create massive, ambitious, and unmissable theatrical experiences. If their track record with multiplex-sized television is any indication, the 2028 box office just found its heavy hitter. But don’t worry, they aren’t abandoning television. “The Boroughs” has been renewed for a second season.
Stay tuned as more details emerge from the studio vault—assuming the Demogorgons don’t get to them first.
