If you thought dating in the modern era was a nightmare, try doing it when you smell like a cemetery.
Lightbulb Film Distribution has officially announced that their festival darling Dead Lover is coming to dig up some laughs at home. The dark, boundary-pushing horror-comedy will hit all digital platforms on June 22. The Blu-ray will be released on September 7.
The film recently wrapped its theatrical run, making headlines for introducing the world to “Stink-O-Vision,” a bold gimmick that likely had audiences gripping their popcorn tightly. Fans of The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Death Becomes Her, and Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein should feel right at home here. Minus the body odor, hopefully.
True Love Never Dies (Even When It Really Stinks)
The movie follows a lonely gravedigger. Her social life is severely hindered by the fact that she permanently smells of corpses. She finally beats the odds and meets her dream man—only for him to immediately drown at sea.
Refusing to let a little thing like mortality ruin her dating life, our grief-stricken heroine turns to mad science. She resurrects him. Naturally, her DIY reanimation experiments result in grave consequences, multi-layered chaos, and very unconventional romance.
Behind the Reanimation
The film is directed and co-written by indie powerhouse Grace Glowicki (Honey Bunch, Booger). In a fun, theatrical twist, the core cast pulls double (and triple) duty by playing multiple roles throughout the movie. Grace Glowicki (Booger), Ben Petrie (The Heirloom), Leah Doz (Faith Heist), and Lowen Morrow (Friday Night Movie) star.
