Lionsgate, Blumhouse, and Atomic Monster are heading back into the woods—and this time, they brought most of the original cast and creators with them.

Dust off your beanies, practice your snotty, close-up apology monologues, and prepare to be deeply afraid of standard rock formations again. Lionsgate has officially announced that The Blair Witch Project is returning to theaters on September 24, 2027.

To celebrate, they’ve dropped a wonderfully cryptic release date teaser video that is bound to trigger some serious late-90s motion sickness.

The Horror Avengers Assemble

This isn’t just another studio cash-grab trying to find teeth in the woods. Get this, Jason Blum (Blumhouse) and James Wan (Atomic Monster) are producing. They are joined by Roy Lee and Divide/Conquer’s Adam Hendricks and Greg Gilreath.

Most importantly, they’ve secured the ultimate blessing. Original Blair Witch masterminds Eduardo Sánchez and Daniel Myrick, producer Gregg Hale, and iconic stars Joshua Leonard and Michael C. Williams are all locked in as executive producers.

“Getting all the original people that were involved in the original Blair Witch, getting their blessing and getting them involved… that was very important for all of us,” producer James Wan told IndieWire. “We wanted to pay respect to the legacy of it all.”

The New Kid in the Woods

Stepping into the director’s chair is Dylan Clark, the latest internet phenom to get fast-tracked to Hollywood’s A-list. Clark caught the industry’s eye on YouTube after his terrifying short film Portrait of God went viral. Clark is a busy man; Portrait of God is already being turned into a feature produced by Jordan Peele and Sam Raimi, and he’s also adapting his other short, Story Time.

Penning the script for this new trek into Burkittsville is Chris Thomas Devlin.

What to Expect

Its plot details are locked tight in a stick-figure cage, the official press release promises a “groundbreaking new chapter” that will “remind us how scary the woods can be.” It’s also been said it will not be a reboot (thank god). The massive executive producing team also includes Michael Clear, Judson Scott, and Steven Schneider.

Get ready to return to the woods.
