Long before infinite algorithmic doom-scrolling ruined Friday nights, going to the movies meant securing two feature films for the price of one single ticket. Free streamer Pluto TV is officially bringing back the sacred double feature tradition, teaming up with entertainment powerhouse Entertainment Tonight to launch Double Feature Fridays starting August 21.
The weekly streaming event pairs a beloved, heavy-hitting studio classic with an exclusive free streaming debut of an indie gem. A shared actor, theme, or genre cleverly links each. Hosted by ET correspondent Emily Curl, the program promises to turn brainless channel-surfing into a genuine weekly movie ritual.
Raiding Hollywood’s Deepest Vaults
Because Pluto TV sits comfortably under the Paramount umbrella, the show gets direct keys to Entertainment Tonight’s staggering 45-year archive of red-carpet coverage, on-set interviews, and exclusive set visits. Before each pairing begins, Curl will introduce the films using rare archival footage. This gives audiences a look at career-defining moments, physical production hurdles, and behind-the-scenes secrets directly from the stars themselves. The goal is to pair a comfort-watch classic that viewers already hold dear with a fresh discovery they might otherwise miss. All wrapped up in polished Hollywood access.
Zero Gravity and Deep-Space Threats
The inaugural lineup kicks off with a massive space double bill featuring Alfonso Cuarón’s Oscar-winning thriller Gravity alongside the streaming premiere of The Outer Threat. Viewers will get an insider look at the punishing physical toll Sandra Bullock endured during Gravity’s zero-gravity shoot. Then it will pivot to Earth for The Outer Threat. Constance Wu plays a retired astrophysicist whose quiet domestic life shatters when her partner makes a world-altering discovery.
