The Horror Collective has teamed up with streamer BloodStream to bring Douglas Forrester’s acclaimed supernatural horror film, Carry the Darkness, to horror audiences nationwide. After its exclusive run on BloodStream, the film is officially available today on all major digital platforms, as well as on Blu-ray.
Small-Town Paranoia and the Satanic Panic
Set in 1993, the narrative centers on Travis Baldwin. He’s a misunderstood teenage metalhead trapped in a community gripped by the Satanic Panic. When a malevolent entity unleashes havoc across his small town, local hysteria quickly targets Travis as the culprit—however, the town’s paranoia mounts. Real evil lurks in the shadows. Travis must fight to protect his friends and survive before the town’s collective delusion destroys them.
Nostalgic Dread Meets Heavy Riffs
Combining supernatural terror, coming-of-age drama, and small-town mystery, Carry the Darkness captures the intense alienation of a generation raised on heavy metal. The atmospheric film also dives into the real-world horrors of moral panic. It explores how societal fear often breeds worse monsters than the supernatural entities it hunts.
An Acclaimed Cast and Atmospheric Score
Starring Joel Meyers, the film features an impressive ensemble cast including Jaden Gant, Helen Laser, Hollis Fox, Autumn Breaud, and David Boldt. Travis Bacon’s original score enhances the story’s moody atmosphere.
Redefining Early ’90s Horror
Shaked Berenson of The Horror Collective praised the film for reinventing small-town horror through haunting visuals and sharp nostalgia, while giving voice to marginalized youth.
Writer-director Douglas Forrester also said the story draws equally from classic early ’90s media and the era’s unsettling true history. It aims to balance ominous, tension-filled storytelling with an emotionally grounded core.

My goal was to create an ominous thriller with a big beating heart at its core.
