There are a lot of perks to my job, including seeing things before they premiere, which is the case with “The Horror of Dolores Roach,” Prime Video’s new series that premieres today (7/7). Without giving out any spoilers, I’m going to go ahead and tell you now it is, without a doubt, one of the best new series of the year.
“The Horror of Dolores Roach” stars Justina Machado, who is absolutely perfect for her role. Alejandro Hernandez, Kita Updike, and K. Todd Freeman also star.
In the series, Dolores Roach (Justina Machado) is released after an unjust 16-year prison sentence, and she returns to a gentrified Washington Heights. Dolores reunites with an old stoner friend, Luis (Alejandro Hernandez), who lets her live and work as a masseuse in the basement under his empanada shop. When the promise of her newfound stability is quickly threatened, “Magic Hands” Dolores is driven to shocking extremes to survive.
Another perk to my gig is talking to amazing people, writers, directors, actors, and more, such as the show’s creator Aaron Mark. Aaron and I sat down to discuss the series, its origin, and much more, and it was an absolute pleasure.
The eight-episode first season (we’ve already got our fingers crossed for a second) of “The Horror of Dolores Roach” will premiere exclusively on Prime Video on July 7, 2023. Be sure to also check out the killer podcast!
