A24, which has released films like Hereditary, the X trilogy, and most recently, Heretic, has unveiled the first highly anticipated trailer for Death of a Unicorn, a darkly comedic new film from writer and director Alex Scharfman.
Death of a Unicorn stars a powerhouse cast including Paul Rudd (Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire), Jenna Ortega (Beetlejuice Beetlejuice), Will Poulter (We Are the Millers), Téa Leoni (Jurassic Park III), and Richard E. Grant (Gosford Park).
The film follows a father and daughter (Rudd and Ortega) who accidentally hit and kill a unicorn on their way to a weekend retreat hosted by the father’s wealthy and eccentric boss. When the pharmaceutical giant learns about the creature, he seeks to exploit its miraculous curative properties for profit. The trip goes downhill when another unicorn becomes hell-bent on revenge, and chaos ensues.
While Sharfman is making his feature directorial debut, he has long been a fixture in the film industry. He has produced films such as Blow the Man Down, House of Spoils, and Resurrection. He also has a long list of short films to his credit.
