A talented ensemble cast has been assembled for the upcoming tech-fused indie horror-thriller Near Death, which promises a chilling exploration of augmented reality gone wrong. Leading the charge is Alex MacNicoll, known for his role in NBC’s Brilliant Minds.
Joining MacNicoll in this terrifying tech experiment are Harrison Xu (Extremely Unique Dynamic), Ivan Leung (Extremely Unique Dynamic), Olivia Rose Prince (“It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia”), David A. Chang (The Accountant 2), Del Eswar (The Dresden Sun), and Paige Hapeman (Sit Down Stand Up). This diverse group of actors is set to face a reality-bending fight for their lives.
The film’s eerie premise centers around a withdrawn and somewhat isolated software engineer. Seeking to celebrate his birthday in a secluded mountain cabin, he gathers a group of his friends. However, this isn’t just a weekend getaway filled with cake and awkward singing. The engineer has an ulterior motive: to test out a cutting-edge augmented reality prototype that he’s been instrumental in developing.
Unfortunately, the test takes a decidedly dark and unexpected turn. When the AR prototype malfunctions, the group’s perception of reality begins to crumble. They are forced to question everything they see and experience as the night descends into a desperate and terrifying battle to stay alive, where the lines between the virtual and the real become dangerously blurred.
Near Death marks the feature directorial debut of Shaina Aidan, who also penned the screenplay. Producing this mind-bending thriller are Noel Do-Murakami (Extremely Unique Dynamic), David A. Chang, and Del Eswar (“The Apprentice”).
