This isn’t your typical jump-scare fest, though. Warner Bros. calls it “a new vision of fear,” and Coogler has name-dropped classics like From Dusk Till Dawn, The Faculty, and the legendary John Carpenter as inspirations.
Leading the charge is none other than Michael B. Jordan, pulling double duty as twin brothers who think they can outrun their past by heading back home. Spoiler alert: they can’t. Their hometown has a seriously nasty welcoming committee of ancient evil just waiting for them.
And the talent doesn’t stop there. We’ve got Oscar nominee Hailee Steinfeld, the always fantastic Jack O’Connell, the brilliant Wunmi Mosaku, and the powerful Jayme Lawson rounding out the main cast. Plus, you’ll see familiar faces like Omar Benson Miller and the legendary Delroy Lindo.
Coogler’s even brought his Black Panther A-team along for the ride, including director of photography Autumn Durald Arkapaw, Oscar-winning production designer Hannah Beachler, editor Michael P. Shawver, the incredible Oscar-winning composer Ludwig Göransson, and Oscar-winning costume designer Ruth E. Carter.
I got an early peek and called it “blood brilliant” in my spoiler-free review. Seriously, if you’re only watching one horror movie this year, make it Sinners. Mark your calendars. Sinners will come to digital on June 3rd. Get your copy on Blu-ray or 4K Ultra Steel Book on July 22nd. Pre-order your copy now.
