Synestesys has officially announced that Screamfest LA will host the World Premiere of Postmortem on October 10th. It has also dropped the first chilling trailer.

The psychological thriller is the latest feature from writer-director Andrés Beltrán. The film stars Odette Annable alongside Allegra Leguizamo, Julio César Cedillo, Andrés Londoño, Chelsea Harris, and Tony Revolori.

A Dark Exploration of Grief

The narrative explores mortality, grief, and the severe dangers of refusing to let go. Odette Annable plays Helena Martinez, a grieving medical examiner running a small morgue near the California–Mexico border. Six months after her husband’s sudden death, she manages to keep her teenage daughter grounded primarily by ignoring the tragedy—however, her fragile routine shatters when sixteen bodies suddenly arrive at her facility simultaneously.

The Ritual Unfolds

These deceased individuals belong to an elderly cult that committed mass suicide during a resurrection ritual. While processing the bodies, Helena discovers a videotape that recorded the entire terrifying ceremony. Furthermore, she learns that one surviving member remains alive in the adjacent hospital. This survivor insists that the ritual can still be completed successfully. Driven by deep despair, Helena considers using the resurrection ceremony on her own late husband.

Production and Premiere Details

Jason Cherubini, Roberto Urbina, and Martín Ramos produced the film. Odette Annable and Andrés Beltrán also served as executive producers, alongside several industry partners.

Genre fans can catch the haunting premiere on Saturday, October 10th, at 5:00 PM PST inside Screen 1 at the TCL Chinese Theatre. Find more Screamfest news here. A wider release will follow.
