Writer Michael W. Conrad and acclaimed artist Noah Bailey have reunited for their most disturbing graphic novel yet, titled The 99 Legs. The creative team behind the hit graphic novels Tremor Dose and Double Walker draws deep inspiration from Italian Giallo cinema for this Mad Cave release.
A Giallo-Inspired Nightmare
The storyline centers on a down-on-his-luck crime writer who makes a chilling discovery in his local area. A string of gruesome murders closely mirrors the plot of his unpublished manuscript. Terrified that the violent events will implicate him, the author desperately attempts to halt the killings before they occur. Consequently, a blood-spattered nightmare unfolds as the true identity of the mysterious killer gradually comes to light.
Creative Evolution and Craft
To bring this terrifying vision to life, Conrad and Bailey pushed their artistic boundaries in new directions. Letterer Kyle Arends designed custom fonts specifically for the project, while assistants Elisa and Nick handled the intricate flatting process. The duo also embraced the avant-garde sensibilities and twisting suspense characteristic of classic seventies slasher thrillers. This intense collaboration produced an uncanny tale that stands out in their shared body of work.
