Unlike typical genre films where naive, unprepared victims face terrifying monsters, the upcoming sci-fi action-horror film The Awakening focuses on a highly trained military squad ready for combat.
Well Go USA revealed that the story follows an elite tactical unit that enters a Colombian jungle to eliminate a target. However, their routine operation quickly spirals into a gory nightmare when an ancient, curse-bearing force awakens in the darkness. Centuries earlier, a Spanish conquistador expedition faced a similar threat in the same territory. As a result, both groups across time must fight relentless, primeval terror to survive the jungle.
Star-Studded Latin American Cast and Creative Legacy
The feature boasts an impressive ensemble cast featuring Claudio Cataño (Pacific), Alejandro Buitrago (Narcos), and Andres Londono (Narcos: Mexico). The cast also includes Héctor Sánchez, Andrea Olaya, Quique Sanmartín, Jaisson Jeack, Carlos Mariño, Salvador Bridges, and Ricardo Leguizamo. Legendary horror filmmaker Jaime Osorio Marquez (The Squad) wrote and directed the movie, but tragically passed away before production was complete. To honor his artistic legacy, producer Federico Durán and director José Luis Rugeles stepped in to finish the film.
Release Schedule and Distribution
Sales agent Latido Films praised Osorio’s vision, calling the project a masterclass in Latin American magic-realism horror and action. Horror fans can watch the official trailer for an intense preview of the jungle carnage. The Awakening arrives on Digital platforms on November 10, with physical Blu-ray and DVD releases scheduled for December 15.
Well Go USA’s most recent release is the action-packed horror film Ghost in the Cell, from director Joko Anwar. Learn more about the film and watch our interview with Anwar at HorrorFuel.com.
