In 2020, director Rob Savage gained internet fame with a terrifying viral prank video. He quickly turned that momentum into Host, a widely acclaimed Zoom-based horror feature produced during pandemic lockdowns. Since then, Savage has continued exploring diverse corners of the genre with Dashcam, The Boogeyman, and his newest theatrical release, Other Mommy, which is in theaters now. Now, Blumhouse has officially confirmed his next ambitious horror venture during their New York Comic Con panel.
Down Into the New York City Tunnels
Savage’s upcoming feature film project is officially titled Molepeople. Based on a script by Nathan Elston, the story follows a man descending into abandoned subways beneath New York City. Down in the darkness, he uncovers a twisted, secretive society lurking beneath the bustling streets. Horror fans are speculating whether the film will deliver a gruesome creature feature or an unsettling cult thriller.
Heavyweight Talent Enters the Underground
Academy Award nominee LaKeith Stanfield and star Ben Mendelsohn are officially attached to lead the cast. Stanfield brings major genre credibility from hits like Get Out and the horror series The Changeling. Meanwhile, Mendelsohn brings impressive experience from dark thrillers like Stephen King’s The Outsider.
Production on Molepeople begins later this year, and Paramount has set an official theatrical release date of August 27, 2027.
