James Tynion IV’s comic series Something Is Killing the Children remains one of horror’s biggest modern success stories. The premise centers on deadly, shape-shifting monsters invading small towns to prey on young children. Because only children can see the beasts, adults continuously dismiss the ongoing threat.
Director Craig Zobel Takes the Helm
After years of development, Blumhouse officially confirmed Craig Zobel as director of the live-action movie adaptation. The announcement came during the Blumfest presentation at NYCC. Zobel previously directed acclaimed projects like Compliance, Z for Zachariah, The Hunt, Mare of Easttown, and The Penguin.
Tynion expressed immense excitement regarding his direct involvement with the upcoming film and franchise expansion. Furthermore, producer Jason Blum continues to champion the adaptation and its iconic lead character, Erica Slaughter. Alongside the live-action movie, Blumhouse is simultaneously developing an adult animated series.
Tynion said, “Jason Blum himself has been a huge advocate of the series, and I know he feels the potential for what this could be beyond a comic, beyond a novel, beyond all of this. I think Erica Slaughter is a character who has the potential to resonate with people all over the world. She already has in publishing, and I am thrilled that we’re going to have the potential to see her come to life in a whole bunch of different ways.”
