Hulu has officially ordered a full series of Ryan Coogler’s highly anticipated series “The X-Files.” The greenlight comes shortly after Coogler’s historic Academy Award success with his acclaimed vampire film Sinners. Coogler wrote, directed, and executive produced the pilot episode, which earned immediate praise from executives. Sci-fi fans can expect a fresh, modern take on one of television’s most celebrated supernatural franchises.
Fresh FBI Duo Takes Over the Unexplained Cases
Variety reports that the upcoming reimagining stars Danielle Deadwyler and Himesh Patel as two decorated FBI agents with contrasting personalities. Reassigned to a long-shuttered division, the duo forms an unlikely bond as they investigate strange, unexplained occurrences. Crucially, Deadwyler and Patel portray completely new characters rather than direct iterations of iconic agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully. Therefore, the creative team aims to build an entirely original dynamic while honoring the established global mythology.
Visionary Creative Team and Heavyweight Production Partners
Showrunner Jennifer Yale joins Coogler as executive producer to guide the narrative across the upcoming inaugural season. Original series creator Chris Carter also serves as an executive producer alongside Proximity Media co-founders Zinzi Coogler and Sev Ohanian. Proximity Media and 20th Television jointly produced the project, which blends respected industry veterans with celebrated new talent. Deadwyler and Patel also serve as co-executive producers on the series.
Building Upon a Legendary Pop Culture Legacy
The original “The X-Files” series ran for eleven acclaimed seasons, earning 61 Emmy nominations and 15 wins. Historically, Chris Carter’s groundbreaking drama reshaped modern television storytelling and inspired generations of science-fiction enthusiasts. Following his record-breaking success with Sinners, Coogler now brings his visionary style to this beloved universe. Ultimately, the new series promises to deliver intense mystery, deep conspiracy lore, and compelling character dynamics for streaming audiences.
