Filming has officially wrapped on The Mummy, a terrifying new take on the classic monster from director Lee Cronin. Known for Evil Dead Rise, Cronin is now bringing his unique vision to this ancient evil.
This isn’t your grandma’s Mummy movie! New Line Cinema is producing the film, along with Blumhouse and James Wan’s Atomic Monster.
A Glimpse into the Ancient Terror
Jack Reynor (Midsommar, pictured) leads the cast. He is joined by Laia Costa (Victoria) and Verónica Falcón (Ozark). May Calamawy (Moon Knight), May Elghety (Dusty and the Pops), and Natalie Grace round out the cast.
Cronin himself gave fans a sneak peek on Instagram after filming wrapped, posting a photo from the set. We see a wall covered in cryptic hieroglyphics, hinting at the film’s ancient and ominous style. In front of the wall sits the director’s chair.
While the story is still shrouded in mystery, Cronin dropped a tantalizing hint back in December:
“This will be unlike any Mummy movie you ever laid eyeballs on before… I’m digging deep into the earth to raise something very ancient and very frightening.” Considering his track record, we’re definitely intrigued!
A New Era for an Iconic Monster
This version of The Mummy is both written and directed by Cronin. However, it marks a significant departure for the franchise. Notably, it’s the first Mummy film not to be released by Universal Pictures, with New Line taking the reins this time around. Production was a global affair, commencing in March 2025 and concluding in June, with filming locations spanning from Ireland to Spain.
Cronin’s last film, Evil Dead Rise, was a massive success. It raked in over $150 million worldwide. This proves his ability to revitalize beloved horror properties. That movie also ushered in a new direction for the Evil Dead series, with original creator Sam Raimi empowering other filmmakers to craft their own unique stories within the franchise.
With horror heavyweights like Jason Blum and James Wan producing alongside Cronin’s own company, Doppelgängers, The Mummy has all the ingredients to be a major shake-up for the classic monster. So, horror fans should absolutely keep this one on their radar – it’s got serious potential to deliver a bold, new take on an iconic terror! Get wrapped up in The Mummy when it opens in theaters on April 17, 2026!
