Odette Annable (Supergirl) is set to lead Anima, a new psychological horror film that promises to be profoundly unsettling. The movie is written and directed by Colombia’s Andrés Beltrán (Tarumama), and production is already underway in Bogotá! And we’ve got the first behind-the-scenes images.
A Desperate Obsession Unleased
Anima follows Helena (Annable), a forensic medical investigator who is utterly consumed by grief after the death of her husband, Richard (Andres Londono). However, as she becomes obsessed with a disturbing new case, Helena starts to believe she can bring Richard back from the dead. A terrifying delusion that unleashes a cascade of horrific consequences.
Joining the cast are Allegra Leguizamo (Tin Soldier) as Julia, Helena’s daughter, and Tony Revolori (Scream VI) as Pablo, a key figure mysteriously tied to the case that pulls Helena deeper into her spiral of obsession and horror. Julio Cesar Cedillo (Sicario) is also stars.
“This is a deeply emotional and unsettling story—about grief, denial, and the terrifying cost of refusing to let go,” said Beltrán. “It’s been exciting to bring this vision to life with such a dedicated creative team. From the very beginning, Anima stood out as something special—genre storytelling that’s grounded in emotional truth,” added Cherubini. “With this cast and Andrés at the helm, we’re building something haunting and memorable.”
The Team Behind the Terror
Anima is being produced by Jason Cherubini, Roberto Urbina, and Martin Ramos of Cinestesia Films. John Harris, J. Todd Harris, Marc Marcum, and Thomas Pettinelli are serving as executive producers.
Producer Jason Cherubini shared his excitement, stating, “From the very beginning, Anima stood out as something special… genre storytelling that’s grounded in emotional truth. With this cast and Andrés at the helm, we’re building something haunting and memorable.”
Annable is well-known for her roles in The CW’s “Supergirl” and Matt Reeves’ Cloverfield. She also starred in the supernatural horror film The Unborn, as well as in The CW’s “Walker.”
Director Andrés Beltrán recently helmed Quicksand, a horror thriller penned by Matt Pitts, known for “Westworld,” marking his English-language debut.
With a compelling premise and a talented team, Anima sounds like it’s going to be a must-watch for psychological horror fans! We will update you as soon as the release date is announced. In the meantime, I recommend watching Odette Annable in action in The Unborn, out now free on Roku and Tubi.
