It’s official, Potterheads – Hogwarts has reopened! HBO’s “Harry Potter” TV series — the long-awaited and much-hyped return to J.K. Rowling’s wizarding world — has officially started production at Warner Bros. Studios in the U.K.
Meet Your New Golden Trio & More!
Get ready to meet your new heroes! The show has also revealed a first look at Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, smiling in costume with the character’s signature round glasses, scar, and school uniform. McLaughlin is joined by Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley. This young trio was selected from more than 30,000 actors who auditioned in a massive casting call last fall!
New casting announcements were made today, including Rory Wilmot as Neville Longbottom, Amos Kitson as Dudley Dursley, Louise Brealey as Madam Rolanda Hooch, and Anton Lesser as Garrick Ollivander.
A Fresh Take on a Beloved Story
Led by showrunner Francesca Gardiner and director Mark Mylod of “Succession” fame, HBO’s new take on the beloved book-turned-movie franchise will follow the young Potter as he discovers that he’s a wizard, leaves his Muggle family behind, and sets off to attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
The adult cast is also shaping up to be truly magical! Variety reports that John Lithgow (Conclave, The Crown) plays Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer (Tumbleweeds, The White Queen) is Minerva McGonagall, and Paapa Essiedu (I May Destroy You, Gangs of London) is Severus Snape. Nick Frost (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz) plays the lovable Rubeus Hagrid. Other exciting casting includes Lox Pratt as Draco Malfoy, Katherine Parkinson as Molly Weasley, and Johnny Flynn as Lucius Malfoy. Leo Earley as Seamus Finnigan, Alessia Leoni as Parvati Patil, and Sienna Moosah as Lavender Brown round out the cast.
Seven Books, Seven Seasons!
The plan for the series is to dedicate each of the seven Harry Potter books to an entire season. Variety reports that shooting on Season 1 is expected to last until the spring of 2026. Filming for Season 2 will then go into production after just a short break.
The series is written and executive-produced by Gardiner, and Mylod will executive-produce and direct multiple episodes. The show is being made by HBO in association with Brontë Film and TV and Warner Bros. Television, with executive producers including Rowling herself, Neil Blair, and Ruth Kenley-Letts of Brontë Film and TV, and David Heyman of Heyday Films.
Get ready for the new “Harry Potter” series to cast a spell on you in 2027.
