A brand-new horror film is on the horizon, and it’s tackling one of the most unexpected subjects: the childhood of Jesus. The Carpenter’s Son, inspired by the dark and mystical Infancy Gospel of Thomas, is a supernatural horror film that promises to explore a time rarely seen on screen. Ahead of its debut, the film has now scored a hard “R” rating for “strong/bloody violent content, and brief nudity.”

The film, written and directed by Egypt’s Lotfy Nathan, has assembled a fantastic cast to bring this haunting story to life. Nicolas Cage takes on the role of the father, known simply as “the Carpenter,” while singer and actress FKA Twigs plays “the Mother.” Noah Jupe (from the A Quiet Place franchise) stars as “the Boy,” young Jesus himself.

The movie tells the story of a family living in hiding in Roman Egypt. When “the Boy” is driven to doubt by a mysterious child, he rebels against his guardian and, in doing so, reveals inherent powers and a destiny far beyond his comprehension. As he begins to exercise his power, the family becomes the target of horrors that are both human and divine, forcing them to confront a terrifying truth.

The newly released teaser trailer offers a brief yet chilling glimpse at the film that promises to be a gripping and unforgettable experience for horror fans when The Carpenter’s Son arrives this fall.
