Thanks to the warm reception for horror game adaptations like “Fallout” and “Silent Hill,” the door has been opened for more games to hit the big screen. The latest title to join the list is Puppet Combos‘ 2018 retro-style hit video game “Night Shift,” their first feature film.
Shot on 16mm film, the movie promises to bring that grainy, VHS-era slasher dread to the big screen. The core premise is just as terrifying as the game: a serial killer is targeting late-night gas station clerks.
The story centers on Debra (Adrianne Knapp), who is forced to work the soul-crushing overnight shift at a gas station. What starts as routine shelf-stocking and floor-sweeping quickly devolves into a nightmare of paranoia, dread, and blood-soaked madness as a masked killer lurks in the shadows.
The man ensuring the movie stays faithful to the source material? That’s Ben Cocuzza, the writer and director of the film, who also helmed the original “Night Shift” game.
The cast features Justin West (Ghost Adventures), Phu Mau, and Donald Morgan, as well as cameos from YouTubers Justin Whang and John Wolfe.
The project aims to be a perfect translation of the Puppet Combo signature aesthetic—expect an authentic, grimy, VHS-style ’80s slasher experience.
Night Shift: The Movie is coming to select theaters on October 11! Check local listings and grab your tickets now before it fades into the night.
