If you feel like actor Alan Ritchson is everywhere lately, you aren’t dreaming—and honestly, we aren’t complaining. The “Reacher” star is officially bringing his massive screen presence to Netflix’s high-octane sci-fi action thriller, War Machine, premiering this Friday, March 6.
Netflix teamed up with Lionsgate for this one, and it looks like the perfect “popcorn and a movie” night for fans of grit, gadgets, and gore.
Survival of the Fittest
The movie puts a terrifying spin on military training. We follow a group of elite recruits during the brutal final hours of Army Ranger selection. When they think the “hell week” couldn’t get any worse, a routine exercise turns into a literal war zone.
They encounter a deadly extraterrestrial threat that doesn’t just want to fight—it defies everything they’ve been trained to expect. It’s basically Predator meets Black Hawk Down, and we are here for it.
The “Glitch in the Matrix” Title
You might be thinking, “Wait, didn’t Netflix already make a War Machine?” You’re right. There was a 2017 satire starring Brad Pitt with the same name. But Netflix is doubling down and keeping the title for this sci-fi reboot anyway. Just make sure you click the one with the aliens and the explosions, not the military/politics!
A Massive Ensemble Cast
Ritchson is leading the charge, but he’s got some serious backup. Action veterans Dennis Quaid and Esai Morales (Mission: Impossible) play the commanding officers overseeing the chaos. Ritchson is joined in the trenches by Stephan James, Jai Courtney, Keiynan Lonsdale, Blake Richardson, and Daniel Webber.
The Creative Vision
The film is directed by Patrick Hughes, the guy who gave us The Hitman’s Bodyguard and The Expendables 3. He’s a master of balancing massive explosions with high-speed action, so expect the sci-fi effects to be top-tier. Fun fact: Hughes is also the guy Netflix tapped to helm the upcoming remake of The Raid, so you know the fight choreography in War Machine is going to be insane.
How to Watch
The wait is almost over. War Machine is skipping the theaters and heading straight to your Netflix queue on Friday, March 6. Watch the trailer and the sneak peek below.
