Sandy Chukhadarian’s Film “Psychos” is Not One to Miss

When three young women receive shocking videos anonymously, a nightmare is reawakened that ignites a thirst for bloody vengeance. They embark on a journey to locate the house, their sadistic captor and to discover the truth behind those locked doors. But, the most shocking revelation of this chilling tale is the identities of the victims.
 
If anyone has read my movie reviews before, you know that if the movie is lacking, I am not afraid to tell you so.  I still feel a bit bad about my last scathing review, but it was honest.  Luckily, today is not a day for scathe.  I watched Psychos last night.  This film written and directed by Sandy Chukhadarian and it was fantastic!  It stars Angelica Chitwood, Deniele Cloutier and Melissa Elena Jones and is released through Leomark Studios.

I wasn’t sure what to expect going in. I watched the trailer about 30 seconds before watching the film and, to be honest, wasn’t gripped.  But I pushed play and thoroughly enjoyed myself.
 
No movie is perfect, so let’s start with the things that were a bit lacking.  The low budget was pretty apparent, but that is nobody’s fault.  The only thing that really stuck out to me was the onscreen violence.  Often times the camera angles were smartly placed to hide impacts, hacks, and slices, but anything that was shown (such as kicks and punches) looked like stage violence in a play or a really bad WWF match from the ‘80s.  Obviously you don’t want the actors to actually connect or injure each other, but it needed a bit a editing to look more vicious and realistic.

Now, on to the many gems of the film.  Often in independent films the characters are too much. They are over the top and stereotypical.  There was an essence of that here, but it actually really worked.  The three main leads were all very contrasting and completely bought into their characters.  Yes, they were pretty obvious and archetypal, but again, that worked for this particular theme.
 
As far as the plot goes, this one was anything, but obvious.  I was kept guessing and the journey that the film took me on was not the journey I signed up for or expected…it far surpassed my expectations.  Chukhadarian opened one door to lead us down a hallway in the story and then threw us out the hidden window to the side…and then did it again…and again.

This journey for “bloody revenge” is one you should not miss.  Psychos is on VOD March 17 and it is one that I highly recommend.  Two severed thumbs up — I am still working on a rating system…maybe not severed thumbs, but two gruesome appendages up.
