Daryl Dixon’s passport is officially running out of pages. AMC has announced that the upcoming fourth season of the spinoffThe Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon” will be its last. And the final leg of the journey is set to land in 2027.

For a guy who just wanted to go for a quick motorcycle ride in Georgia back in 2010, Daryl Dixon has certainly taken the long way home.

The Dynamic Duo’s Final Chapter

Fan-favorite Norman Reedus will suit up one last time alongside long-time co-star Melissa McBride (Carol Peletier). After reuniting for Season 3, the duo takes an extended, chaotic scenic route through unfamiliar global apocalyptic landscapes. The final season promises to wrap up their relentless quest to get back to their loved ones.

Daryl Dixon has been an incredible journey. I thank each and every fan who has joined us on this ride,” Reedus said in a statement. “It’s been a privilege to build this story for these characters, and we have so much gratitude for how it’s been embraced. Your love and support have made every moment worth it.”

The Road Behind

If you need a recap, here’s a breakdown of the first three seasons:

Season 1: Bonjour, Walkers: Daryl mysteriously washes ashore in France and is immediately recruited by an order of nuns to escort Laurent—a boy believed to be the messiah who will heal the world. He fights off mutated “burner” walkers and a fascist paramilitary group known as Pouvoir Du Peuple. Daryl serves as the kid’s reluctant bodyguard. In the end, Daryl misses his ride back to America to protect Laurent. While back in Maine, Carol realizes her best friend is missing and sets out to hunt him down.

Season 2: The Book of Carol: Carol cons her way onto a transatlantic flight to Europe, landing in France to track down Daryl. Meanwhile, Daryl becomes a full-fledged mentor to Laurent while helping lead a local resistance against the Pouvoir. After Carol arrives and kicks total ass across the French countryside, the iconic duo finally reunites. Together, they dismantle the enemy faction. They save Laurent and escape France through the pitch-black darkness of the Chunnel, setting their sights on Great Britain.

Season 3: The Long Way Home: Hoping to catch a ship back to America, Daryl and Carol’s return trip takes an agonizing detour through Spain and unfamiliar distant lands. As they navigate wildly different cultural factions, harsh terrain, and bizarre new walker variants, their path keeps pushing them further away from home. Their grueling trek across a post-apocalyptic Europe becomes the ultimate test of survival. It also sets the stage for their final attempt to return to Alexandria.

The Road Ahead

Following the show’s globetrotting third season, the fourth and final chapter will serve as the ultimate curtain call for two of the franchise’s most iconic survivors.
