Nearly a decade after first rescuing this 1990s cult gem from VHS obscurity on Blu-ray, the physical media gods at Vinegar Syndrome are bringing the Clint Howard (Terrifier 3, Night Shift) classic Ice Cream Man to 4K Ultra HD.
And no, before you ask, this movie has nothing to do with Eli Roth’s upcoming movie of the same name—this is the OG 1995 masterpiece of frozen terror.
Pre-orders are live right now exclusively on Vinegar Syndrome’s website, with both a Standard Edition and a hyper-limited Slipcase Edition shipping out this month.
The Limited Edition Flex
For the serious collectors, the Ice Cream Man’s Limited Edition 2-disc set (capped at 6,000 units) comes wrapped in a sleek spot-gloss hard slipcase featuring artwork by Robert Sammelin, plus a 40-page perfect-bound book packed with essays from film historians Patrick Dahl, BJ Colangelo, and JA Kerswell. Vinegar Syndrome was quick to warn fans: “Absolutely no major retailers will be stocking them.” In short: move fast or get left out in the cold.
Rocky Road, Heavy on the “Human”
After witnessing his beloved neighborhood ice cream vendor get murdered as a child, young Gregory Tudor spends a few formative years in an asylum. Once released, he naturally decides the most logical career path is taking over the local ice cream route himself.
The catch? Gregory’s secret recipe for a truly unforgettable scoop of Pistachio calls for… freshly harvested human body parts. When the local kids get too nosy, Gregory realizes they’d make a great new flavor.
Alongside B-movie legend Clint Howard as the deeply unhinged Gregory, the chaos stars David Naughton, Olivia Hussey, and Jan-Michael Vincent.
