When an experimental war cyborg named Omega-1 (who’s voice is like a soothing combo of a Speak n’ spell and Mel Tillis) goes completely off it’s tits; a top flight group of military hard-asses named B.A.M. (Bad Ass MotherFuckers…and no; I didn’t make that up) lead by Maj. Murphy Black, also known as Killzone (Reb fucking Brown…Yor himself) is called in to neutralize that murderous machine in the jungle hell it has holed up in…one problem though; the “cyborg” part is on a need to know basis, and the powers that be feel that B.A.M. doesn’t need to know.
It soon becomes obvious to our cast of the high school production of Predator that they are not dealing with a rogue guerrilla as they’ve been told and it’ll take every amount of balls and bullets they possess to survive this mission!
Filled with more testosterone than a rather large container containing testosterone, billions of bullets and pew-pew lazers, a nifty robot costume, a great score (courtesy of Al Festa) that combines synths and tasty guitar riffs, and some great gore; Robowar is a solid gold fucking hit in my beastly book.
It doesn’t hurt that this thing is brought to us by one of my all-time fav Italian auteurs; Bruno Mattei (and if you don’t love his off-kilter flicks we may not be able to play together anymore), along with a script from Troll 2‘s Rossella Drudi and Claudio Fragasso (who also co-directed a sequence), so you know things get ultra-ridiculous ultra-fast. And of course you can’t go wrong with ol’ All-American Icon Reb Brown as your leading man…the only dude that can look like he’s saying “Aw Shucks” as he blows a hole in you with heavy ordinance.
Along with the magnificent glory of the main event, ol’ Severin have thrown on an extra or two to put a cherry on top of this sin-ematic sundae! Included are: interviews with Fragasso, Drudi (two in fact; one focusing on Robowar, and one covering her entire career), Actors Catherine Hickland, John P. Dulaney, Jim Gaines Jr. (wait until you hear the stories John and Jim tell about co-star Mel Davidson), and Actor Stuntman Massimo Vanni, Hickland’s behind-the-scenes home movies, and the film’s trailer.
Robowar is absolutely irresistible, balls-to-the-wall, batshit crazy, explosive sci-fi fun…and you absolutely must slap your putrid peepers on it immediately!
