‘The Strain’, based on Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan’s best-selling graphic novel, was 2014’s most watched new scripted series. Del Toro continues to serve as one of the show’s writers, along with Chuck Hogan and several others.
The show follows Dr. Goodweather,who is in charge of New York City’s Center for Disease Control (CDC). Dr. Goodweather “Eph”and his team are tasked with investigating a plane that has landed, It appears that there are no survivors on board, but the team finds three passengers still living. The outbreak is nothing like the CDC has ever seen before.
When it’s determined that even the survivors may have been infected. The CDC team must go to each of the survivor’s homes. Eph soon realizes that this is much more than a illness, the infected are turning into grotesque vampires.
Through out season one Eph’s group picks up new members. The group now consists of Nora (Mia Maestro), Eph’s fellow CDC team members, Eph’s young son Zach (Max Charles), hacker Dutch (Ruta Gedminatas), Fet (Kevin Durand), a tough exterminator, and the vampire expert Abraham Setrakain (David Bradley). Abraham has first hand knowledge of the creatures they are facing. He came face to face with “The Master” during his time spent in a concentration camp.
At the end of season one the group has hunted down “The Master” and set out to kill him. It’s left to the group to do what needs to be done, save humanity from the vampire plague.
Season two picks up as New York continues to be overrun with vampires. No one is coming to the city’s aid. Its up to Eph and his friends to find a way to survive and try to kill “The Master”. If they can kill him, they can stop the spread of the virus.
‘The Strain’ will premier on FX on July 12, at 10 p.m.
