‘The Meg 2: The Trench’ Sinks Its Teeth Into A Release Date

Get ready to dive into the sequel to the 2018 prehistoric shark action-thriller Meg. Not only has the sequel got its official title, Meg 2: The Trench, it’s also got a release date, set for 2023.

 

Ben Wheatley (High-Rise) is directing this time around, taking the place of Jon Turteltaub. The action-packed sequel will once again pit Jason Statham against a bloodthirsty 80-foot prehistoric shark. The cast also includes Sienna Guillory, Cliff Curtis, Shuya Sophia Cai, Page Kennedy, and Wu Jing.

 

Dean Georgaris, Erich Hoeber, and Jon Hoeber penned the script for the movie is based on the 1999 novel of the same name by Meg author Steve Alten (interview) who is still writing the Meg series with the most recent, The Meg: Purgatory, set to be released on June 14, 2022.

 

The Meg 2: The Trench surfaces in theaters nationwide on Friday, August 4, 2023. Here’s a look back at the first movie’s trailer (review).
