If I told you there’s an FPS game that looks and feels like Crysis and COD, but it’s indie, you would probably think I lost my mind. Well, I just played a game just like that and I was quite surprised that I enjoyed it! Let me introduce you to Bright Memory: Infinite, an FPS by FYQD Studio and Playisim who I would like to take this time to thank for the reviewing opportunity!
Bright Memory: Infinite takes place in China where players play as Shelia, a member of an organization called the SRO, who is working to understand a strange anomaly that had appeared in the sky over a province causing destruction. Shelia, with the use of a power suit and supernatural abilities, finds herself fighting soldiers from a military organization as well as ancient foes.
Now onto the game itself! For all the FPS vets like me, you may have to get used to these controls as the ones you expect to do one thing may be for something else but thankfully it’s easy to pick up. Along with the controls come added abilities where Shelia can use a sword to fight and shield herself. The game’s sound design and music are fitting for the kind of game we have before us with a nice fusion of metal and traditional Chinese music.
I really liked the graphics as I’ll admit, are up there with AAA titles, the closest that came to mind for me at the time was COD, with how the combat animation looked with the environment.
Overall gameplay is really fun. You can use a sword along with firearms to fight and defeat enemies both modern and ancient, my favorite mechanic is using Shelia’s sword to deflect enemy bullets back at them, not only making you feel badass but helps save on ammo. Using a combination of psychokinesis, melee, and weapon skills help make the combat in the game fun and rewards you with earning points or finding items that help you build up your skills.
Overall Bright Memory: Infinite was enjoyable to play. the only issue I had was the lack of lore at the start of the game that would explain things a little better about what the SRO is and why it’s a rival with the military but other than that I enjoy the use of the sword along with firearms and exploring to find artifacts to build up my stats. I’m very impressed that a game like this was developed by a one-man team!
On my scale of 1-10 I give Bright Memory: Infinite an 8. Bright Memory Infinite is out now on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch.
