MUBI Celebrates Spooky Season With “Flick or Treat: Halloween Horror”

Just in time for the season of fright, MUBI‘s Flick or Treat: Halloween Horror is here. The spooky lineup includes the Ozploitation horror classic Wake in Fright, infamous for leaving Martin Scorsese “speechless” and one of the few films to ever screen twice at Cannes. Also featured are Fabrice Du Welz’s Belgian-French horror film Alleluia, Danish master Nicolas Winding Refn’s Fear X starring John Turturro, and Ben Wheatley’s historical British Civil War shocker A Field in England, and much more.

 

Alléluia – October 1
Michel, a murderous womanizer, meets introverted Gloria online and treats her to a whirlwind one-night-stand. Offering herself as an accomplice in his seductive crimes, the unhinged lovers embark on a deadly odyssey amplified by wild sex, unbridled jealousy, and passionate forays into the dark arts.

 

Fear X – October 16
When his wife is killed in a seemingly random incident, Harry, prompted by mysterious visions, journeys to discover the true circumstances surrounding her murder.

 

Wake in Fright – October 30
A schoolteacher, stuck in a teaching post in an arid backwater, stops off in a mining town on his way home for Christmas. Discovering a local gambling craze that may grant him the money to move back to Sydney for good, he embarks on a five-day nightmarish odyssey of drinking, gambling, and hunting.

 

A Field in England – October 31
England, the 17th CenturyCivil War. A group of men flees from a raging battle but they are captured and forced to take part in a hunt for treasure supposedly buried somewhere in a field. But before they start digging, they eat some strange-looking mushrooms, and then everything goes haywire.
