Todd McFarlane Has Finished The Script For New Spawn Film

Back in April of last year we reported that Todd McFarlane was planning on bringing back one of his best comic book characters, Spawn, for a new film. Now, we can report that McFarlane has finished the script for the film, which he is expecting to receive an “R” rating. McFarlane, in an interview with ComicBook.com, stated that the new film, based on his 90’s comic book series, won’t be a superhero movie. “I’d put it more into horror/suspense/supernatural genre,” He told the site. “In the background, there’s this thing moving around, this boogeyman. That boogeyman just happens to be something that you and I, intellectually, know is Spawn.” McFarlane continues o explain the character. “Will he look like he did in the first mo? No. Will he have a supervillain he fights? No. He’s going to be a spectre, the ghost. He’s this thing that just whoowhooses in, this ghost that moves and will fuck you up if you’re

A Conversation With Comic Book Creator And Author Mitch Hyman

Earlier today I picked up the phone to interview comic book creator/actor/writer/producer/SFX makup artist/funny man Mitch Hyman, the man behind Bubba the Redneck Werewolf. I was not quite sure what to expect. I had no idea that Hyman would such an interesting, funny and sincere man. By the time I hung up the phone my sides were sore from laughing and my head was swimming with the fascinating stories he told. This man, who sometimes bills himself as “The asshole writer” at conventions, not a very fitting title, was far from unpleasant. It was the most interesting conversation I’ve had in ages. My interest in Hyman started over the hilarious trailer I discovered for his film Bubba the Redneck Werewolf , but I came to understand there was much, much more to the writer. Not only is there the Bubba the Redneck Werewolf comic, there’s a novel featuring two unique characters named Vinnie and Mook, who will be introduced in

Dr. Frankenstein To Battle Monsters In The New Comic Monstrous: Tales Of Valor And Villainy

Last night I came across the Kickstarter campaign for Source Point Press’ new four issue comic mini-series Monstrous: Tales of Valor and Villainy and was intrigued. Monstrous is the brain-child of writer Greg Wright (Wild Bullets, Last Monster Standing) and artist Ken Lamug (The Tiny Book of Tiny Stories, A Box Story). “You’ve heard the story of Dr. Frankenstein and his monster before. You know they tried to kill each other. But it didn’t work. Now, Frankenstein has built robots, his monster has built more monsters, and the world will never be the same. Monstrous tells the tales of everyday monsters, robots, and townspeople caught up in the changes sweeping across Europe in the wake of Dr. Frankenstein’s mad science. But even in this twisted landscape, our unconventional heroes—giant rabbit monsters, steam-powered cyborgs, and babysitting bank robbers—all try to live by their own code of honor. So fire up your steampunk rocket-sled and jump onboard!” Their Kickstarter campaign will run

AMC’s Preacher To Premiere At SXSW

AMC’s new series Preacher will premier this March at SXSW, followed by the TV premiere this May. Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg will be directing the series, which is based on the adaption of Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon’s fantastic graphic novel by the same name. For those who are not familiar with the comics, let me explain. Preacher follows Jesse Custer (Dominic Cooper), a preacher from a small Texas town, who was pushed into his profession by his effing insane family. Jesse, after being possessed by Genesis, an entity that is half angel and half demon, sets out to find God. He is accompanied by his ex girlfriend Tulip O’Hare (Ruth Negga) and an Irish vampire named Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun). The angels, desperate to have Genesis back in his cage, send “The Killer of Saints” to find him. If the series is anything like the graphic novels, it will be dark, twisted and controversial.

Friday the 13th Gets Lucky

A Few Words From Our Ms. Palmer “What a piece of shit! No one’s gonna see this crap!” — Actress Betsy Palmer aka Pamela Vorhees The late, esteemed critic, Roger Ebert, coined the phrase “Dead Teenager Movie” and I have stated several times that Jaws 2 arguably gets technical credit as the first one. While teenagers in peril was a long standing theme and used over and over again, it’s the sequel to Spielberg’s game changing shark movie that lined them up one after another for the monster to pick off. Jaws 2 gave the designer sheen to killing off teens. It wasn’t a grainy “B Movie” that played part of a double bill at the drive in. This was wide screen Panavision and a 50 million budget. While there was no nudity, the underlying “have sex and die” motif was there with a killer in the form a pissed off female Great White Shark. The original 1978 Halloween fine

Marvel will soon have a new comic, based on Disney’s attraction The Haunted Mansion. The first issue, written by Joshua Williamson with artwork by E.M. Gist, is due out in March and will introduce the 999 ghosts that walk the halls of the mansion. One thisng that Marvel and I have talked about a little bit is making sure there’s really a horror aspect,” Williamson said. “There are silly parts of the attraction, but we wanted to make sure there was horror there, which is not something I’ve done a lot with my other books.” Williamson’s other titles include Ghosted, Birthright and Nailbiter from Image Comics, Captain Midnight under Dark Horse Comics and Boom!
