I sat down with Glenn Herdling to talk comics and to discuss the first two novels of his ‘Piper’ Series. During our conversation, he also told me about his days as a Marvel Editor and a comic book writer. He took us inside the first novel, ‘Piper Houdini: Apprentice of Coney Island’, and revealed how the character was born and teased where the second book, ‘Piper Houdini: Nightmare on Esopus Island’, will take readers. Horror Fuel: “So, comics, huh?” Glenn Herdling: “Yeah, comics. I have some experiences with writing some horror things for Marvel in my time there including one of the long forgotten characters, Simon Garth, the original Marvel Zombie. I brought him into the fold. He isn’t really a toxic zombie, more of a Voodoo zombie type. That’s what I have in the Piper Houdini novel, Voodoo zombies.” Horror Fuel: “I’m a big fan of Voodoo zombies.” Glenn Herdling: “Yeah, they are a lot of fun. They bring

What would Halloween be without witches? Let’s face it, they are the true face of Halloween besides that grinning gourd you stick a candle in on your porch. But, why do we associate witches with evil and dark purpose? Is it that they are portrayed as ugly child eating folks who can make your life a misery with a spoken word or thought against you? Well, your next door neighbor who is sick of your dog pooping on their Sunday paper could be just as guilty as that. And, you may want to burn them at the stake to teach them the error of their ways too. So are you a witch with dark purpose in mind now too? That’s the thing about people, they all perceive evil in their own way. It is also said that ignorance is bliss and as noted in the Judeo Christian bible, knowledge is evil. This brings us to a person who many believe

Next year will be the 25th anniversary of one of our favorite films, Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas. The stop-motion classic will be getting a sequel, but not in film form. Tokyopop, a anime, manga, and comic-book publisher and Stu Levy, it’s founder, will be taking us back to Halloween Town in a comic-book series. Written by Levy under the pen name D.J. Milky, the series will begin in May of 2018. Titled “Zero’s Journey”, the books will center around Jack Skellinton’s dog Zero as he heads off to Christmas Town for an adventure. What happens is that Zero gets lost, as dogs do, Levy said at New York Comic Con. “And along the way, he gets into a lot of trouble, as dogs do.” We will follow Zero’s adventures throughout 20 issues. Four trade paperbacks will also be released with the first being available next Halloween.

Variety has reported that Sean Carter (Keep Watching) is currently writing a script for the adaptation of King’s short story “Suffer the Little Children”. Carter will also be directing the feature. Nicolas Chartier, Craig Flores, and Sriram Das have signed on to produce. “Suffer the Little Children”, first published back in 1972 in Cavalier Magazine then in “Nightmare in Dreamscapes”, centers on a first-grade school teacher who notices that there is something strange about the children in her class, that there is a texture underneath their skin and a conspiratorial way they play together. There has also been a series of mysterious deaths in the town.
