Outcast follows Kyle Barnes, a man who has been tormented by demonic possession his whole life. He has been labeled an “outcast” by the demons, although he is unsure what that means. He even has a newfound ability to “pull” demons out of others. In his quest to find answers and make sense of the world around him he uncovers a more sinister plot. This issue begins right where the last left off with Kyle and Reverend Anderson having just exorcised a demon from a girl named Sherry. Kyle is troubled because the girl is now left in a catatonic state just as his own mother was. He is starting to question his faith and wonders if they both would’ve been better off before he had intervened. In the meantime, the mysterious “Man In Black” visits another church member and they seem to conspire against Kyle and the Reverend. Whatever he is up to with these church members, it can’t

Dark Horse Comics’ Harrow County #1 is a phenomenal paranormal masterpiece. The superb story-telling is further reinforced by exquisitely eerie watercolor art. The tale begins with the townspeople lynching a local healing woman, Hester Beck, who had been their neighbor and friend. They tolerated her gifts even when they were accompanied by unnatural signs. Well, that is until they found out what evil deeds fed and strengthened her powers. They were afraid that this “healer” might be able to mend her broken body so they shot, stabbed, beat, and burned her just to make sure. With her dying breath she forebode that she would be back, that this was not the end. She warned them that she would revisit them and repay them for their sins. Flash forward and we find Emmy, a farm girl who is suffering from nightmares about an old misshapen tree and afflicted with visions of “haints”, the long forgotten ghosts of Harrow County. Her father

Question: What is black and white and red all over? Answer: A kick-ass comic about the goatpocalypse! 2015 is the Year of the Goat according to the Chinese Zodiac and it may just be right. The night that I recieved a copy of this book to review, a trending hashtag on Twitter was #AddGoatRuinAQuote. You may be able to ruin a quote by adding a goat, but if you add a whole bunch of goats to a horror/slasher comic about demonic possession, then you can’t go wrong. This book is proof of that. Now, I must admit that this book isn’t for everyone. Of course, I only say that because it is intended for mature audiences only. The story starts off on a farm in the southern United States, when a black bird lands and seems to whisper into the ear of a goat. The goat then becomes possessed and is suddenly endowed with the ability to walk and even

At the Image Expo, The Walking Dead’s Robert Kirkman made a deal with Saga creator Brian K. Vaughan and artist Marcos Martin. This deal will allow Vaughan and Martin to do a Walking Dead one-shot story on their site Panel Syndicate. In exchange Kirkman, who is a partner at Image, will be able to make Vaughan and Martin’s digital comic Private Eye available for the first time in print through Image Comics. Vaughan, who has won the Eisner award multiple times, and artist Marcos Martin created the site Panel Syndicate where you can pay whatever amount you want to read digital comics. This will be an exclusive one time deal and will mark not only the first time that Private Eye will see print, but the first time that Kirkman will not be the writer of The Walking Dead. Rumor is that the deal will come to fruition this November.

I just picked up Dark Horse Comics’ Midnight Society: The Black Lake #1 and after reading this review it should be evident that you should too. This book is the brainchild of Drew Edward Johnson who serves as the creator, writer, and artist. It also features Lizzy John as the colorist and the lettering of Steve Dutro. It is the first part of a four part miniseries and debuted on June 10th 2015. Johnson has skillfully combined the elements of steampunk, action-adventure, horror, and mystery into a tale that is hard to put down. The mixture is a wonderful concoction with flavors reminiscent of The Rocketeer, Indiana Jones, Hellboy, B.P.R.D. and the like. It pays homage to a lot of different genres and does it well. That and the name alone reminds me of my favorite Nickelodeon show, Are You Afraid of the Dark?. The masterful storytelling is complemented and furthered along with out of this world artwork, pun intended.

A group of overly sensitive students and parents are fighting to have ‘Sandman’, ‘Persepolis’, ‘Y: The Last Man’, ‘Fun Home ‘ and several other graphic novels, banned from the campus of Crafton Hills College, where the books are covered by the English 250 course. In the course, the graphic novels are covered as a viable type of literature and are used as a source material for assignments and discussions by Professor Ryan Bartlett, who has taught the class for three semesters and is standing up to defend the books. Student Tara Shultz started the ridiculous drama when she noticed the violence and sensitive subject matter in the graphic novels. Shultz made the comment ” I expected Batman and Robin, not pornography.” She made another statement at a protest earlier this week “At most I would like the books eradicated from the system. I don’t want them taught any more. I don’t want anyone else to have to read this garbage.
