Movie Review: Sequence Break (2018)

Oz (Chase Williamson) toils his days away in a failing warehouse as a repairman for vintage arcade cabinets. After being told by his boss that the operation is closing, our hero heads to bar to drink away his blues…though this is short lived as he heads back to the warehouse to bury himself in work, upon doing which he discovers a new game that before you can say Polybius begins to infect him with hallucinatory images after he plays it. As days pass, Oz’s reality becomes a Cronenbergian wet dream of bio-mechanical, hyper-sexualized fever dreams…and visits from a bizarre, violence prone transient. Can Oz keep his humanity as he becomes one with the machine? Sequence Break is a great throwback to the works of Cronenberg mixed up with video game horror yarns such as the Beat the Bishop segment of 1983’s Nightmares…and it plays perfectly into thoughts all of us arcade addicts who were there in the golden days harbored…what

New ‘Sharp Objects’ Poster Doesn’t Feel Very Welcoming

The new poster for HBO‘s upcoming series “Sharp Objects” might leave you feeling tense, and not sure why. While it looks normal enough, it feels like something is lurking just below the surface. The poster may say “welcome home”, but it doesn’t look very welcoming to me. Starring Amy Adams (Arrival), Patricia Clarkson (The Green Mile), April Brinson (The Veil), Violet Brinson (The Veil), and Matt Craven (X-Men: First Class), the series is from director Jean-Marc Vallée and written by Marti Noxon. “Based on the book by The New York Times bestselling author Gillian Flynn (Gone Girl, Dark Places), this eight-episode series tells the story of reporter Camille Preaker (Adams) who returns to her small hometown to cover the murders of two preteen girls. Trying to put together a psychological puzzle from her past, she finds herself identifying with the young victims a bit too closely.” “Sharp Objects” is set to premiere July 8, 2018.

DVD Review: The Violence Movie (1988)

A deranged, shades sportin’, killer (David Wilkinson) on the lam walks right on into the home of a teen named Joey (Joseph Shaughnessy) like the mother fuckin’ cool breeze he is. While there he dons a Freddy Kruger mask and waits for J-man to get home…which when said event occurs leads to a full on WWE style brawl that nothing can stop (the sound effects alone are worth whatever you pay for this DVD)…not even the arrival of Joey’s friend (How do we know he’s our hero’s friend? Why he announces “Hey Joe, it’s me your best friend!” before he gets his throat slashed). Will Joey survive this epic confrontation? (Actually this shit is going to be spoiled for you in like another paragraph or so, so you have been warned) Running a stately 14 minutes, The Violence Movie is a bargain basement gore packed de-fuckin’-light! It’s shot right on a VHS camcorder, and is nothing more than some slasher

Plot Details Surface For Halloween (2018)

Reports are coming in tonight about the plot of this year’s highly-anticipated movie Halloween, meant to be a direct sequel to the original. In the film, “Jamie Lee Curtis returns to her iconic role as Laurie Strode, who comes to her final confrontation with Michael Myers, the masked figure who has haunted her since she narrowly escaped his killing spree on Halloween night four decades ago.” Reportedly, this will be Laurie and Michael’s final showdown. Comicbook.com is reporting that Michael is never referred to by name, only as a “masked figure who has haunted her”, while all of the other films have implied that Laurie and Michael are siblings. Co-writer Danny McBride has already stated that “We’re kind of ignoring all the films past the first one,” He continued. ““It picks up after the first one, but it’s sort of an alternate reality. It’s as if the first Halloween ended in a slightly different way.” Virginia “Ginny” Garnder (Marvel’s Runaways),

Movie Review: The Day of the Purple Sun (2018)

A woman with brain cancer (Margarethe von Stern…who also co-wrote the feature) enters a surreal version of the Egyptian underworld (this time comprised of bucolic fields, swamps, and gaudy rooms and industrial settings). She soon becomes obsessed with the mummification of deceased animals (at times overseen by a frog…could this be a manifestation of the fertility goddess Heqet? Not a stretch when you hear what happens to our terminal heroine next…) before being mummified herself by the god Anubis (this time represented by a man, naked from the waste down and adorned with a fetishistic mask that roughly resembles a canine countenance). Before long our protagonist encounters multiple versions of herself (or so they seem) as she attempts to reconcile her mortality and sense of self. The Day of the Purple Sun is more of an “experience” than a traditional motion picture. The film is comprised of aesthetics more than a standard narrative, and the end result challenges the viewer
