Movie Review: In A Madman’s World Takes Us to Places No Sane Person Would Want to Go!

Elmer Wayne Henley is a down on his luck young dude from Texas. His family is broken (ol’ Elmer lives with his Mom for the record…probably because his Dad is the type of guy that doesn’t think twice about pulling a pistol and unloading a few rounds at his son’s back as he runs away), he’s surrounded by poverty, and his future doesn’t look all that bright and shiny. Enter small time hoodlum Dean Croll into Henley’s life…a charismatic fellow who gets our “hero” involved in all manner of thievery. Of course the illicit activity takes a turn for the darker side when Croll decides that white slavery…in particular the trade of young male teens, would be more lucrative…and Henley goes right along with the insanity. Croll then proceeds to take things even further by raping and murdering scores of young men which Henley helps lure into his clutches (due in no small part to Dean playing into his paranoia)…though

Movie Review: Rendel Dark Vengeance is Hyper-Violent Fun!

After a rather intense opening narration where our hero, Rendel, basically lays it on the line that he is going to tear every criminal he meets a brand new asshole, we learn about the VALA corporation and their shady vaccine business before cutting to some gangsta shit (also involving VALA) getting broken up (along with a score of criminal faces) by our viciously violent pal Big R (with some help from his ethereal blonde muse). Time passes, VALA gets super pissed that Rendel keeps harshing their gig, and action is taken…namely the assembly of a team of crazy hitmen gathered to take our hero down. Outrageous levels of violence ensue. Rendel is a nice alternative to the high adventure cape and spandex yarns currently dominating pop culture. While Rendel does wear a superhero costume of sorts, he is silent, violent (there’s that word again…notice a theme?), and completely driven to destroy the VALA corporation (with very good reason, but i’m

Trailer for ‘The Cured’ Seems Familiar…

Warning: Potential spoilers ahead! I’m a fan of zombies, I’m a fan of movies, so, therefore, I’m a fan of (a good) zombie movie. When I heard about a new movie starring Ellen Page coming out called The Cured about zombies that were cured and trying to re-enter society, I thought, “Oh they made In the Flesh into a movie?” but after seeing the trailer and reading what critics are saying, I’ll be honest I was shocked. Many are hailing the upcoming Irish film as “original” and “unique” but what I saw is a copy of an original. Over time many zombie films have had little moments where zombies act human again or show signs that they remember a small part of themselves, granted usually for dramatic effect before they are killed right before the eyes of a past loved one. In 2013 there was Warm Bodies, a horror rom-com about a zombie falling in love with a human girl

Movie Review: Ghastlies Will Tickle Your Funny Bone…Then Break It!

Ghastlies begins in a way I’m sure we can all relate to…namely with a U.F.O dispensing toothy aliens that bite the shit out of a Satanic cult…real human condition stuff. Following that lil’ slice of gravitas we are introduced to four sorority sisters who head off to a secluded cabin in the woods where, as you may have surmised, they too are plagued (eventually…more on that in ye olde third paragraph) by those same menacin’ monsters from beyond the stars. Can our comely heroines survive this night of teeth, claws, and dodgy puppetry? Ghastlies is exactly what it sets out to be; a fun throwback to the Gremlins clones (Critters, Hobgoblins, Munchies, Ghoulies…especially with that satanic angle mentioned previous) your’s cruelly absolutely loved in his misspent youth…aw screw it, we all know I still love ’em! You get blood, boobs, practical low-rent (read: gloriously rad) puppets, and a ton of goofy fun. The whole affair is cartoony, surreal, and a

‘Deep Blue Sea 2’ Trailer Reminds Us Creating Smart Sharks Is A Terrible Idea

Earlier this year we reported that a sequel to 1999’s killer shark movie Deep Blue Sea was in the works. The sequel, which filmed this summer in Cape Town, South Africa, has received a 2018 release and an R rating for “creature violence, gore, and for language”. The trailer has swum in (via IGN) and proves once again that playing god with smart sharks is a horrible idea. Darin Scott (Tales from the Hood) is in the director’s chair for the sequel, simply titled Deep Blue Sea 2. Michael Beach, Rob Mayes, Danielle Savre, Nathan Lynn, and Darron Meyer star. Erik Patterson, Hans Rodionoff, and Jessica Scott penned the script for Syfy. In the film, “shark conservationist Dr. Misty Calhoun invited to consult on a top-secret project run by pharmaceutical billionaire Carl Durant (Beach). Movie Review: Black Wake Deftly Combines Found Footage and Lovecraft Style Mythology!

Black Wake details the investigation of comely scientist Dr. Luiza Moreira (Nana Gouvea) who begins reviewing every scrap of video evidence concerning a rash of deaths occurring on various beaches near the Atlantic Ocean. As she presses on, Moreira finds shocking evidence that a monstrous prehistoric parasite may be responsible for the murderous mayhem. Complicating matters are a shadow organization that is following Moreira’s every move, a strange cult tied to the parasite (lead by a homeless man that may be Patient Zero of the outbreak), and the lil’ matter of the murder victims returning to life as violence crazed zombie-like beings! Can Dr. Moreira solve the case, survive the forces conspiring against her, maintain her sanity, and save the world? The greatest (though by no means “only”) thing Black Wake has going for it is a truly excellent sense of mythology and world building courtesy of screen writers Jerry Janda, Carlos Keyes, and Jeremiah Kipp (who also directed). As
