Movie Review: “Cats of the Bayou (ASMR)” (Another Hole in the Head Film Festival)

Writer/director Alexander Roman returns with another feature to warm the hearts of viewers who appreciate old-school occult movies and noir films with some modern twists, Cats of the Bayou (ASMR). Like Roman’s previous features, it deals in style and elegance, eschewing graphic gore and violence in favor of good storytelling and leaving certain elements to the imagination of viewers. Members of a group called The Cat Society meet in New Orleans to listen to a tape from Egyptologist Horace, and then learn that one of their members has been found dead, with scratches all over his face and body. A few months later, a young woman named Jacqueline (Max Reeves) returns to the city, where she had lived as a child before being moved to an abbey. As she begins to become increasingly intrigued about the secretive Cat Society and its members, and as she starts to unearth shocking clues about the death of her parents, esoteric mysteries begin to

Movie Review: “Motherly”

Canadian feature Motherly is a slick horror thriller full of intriguing twists and turns. Though savvy viewers may have a strong inclination early on as to the big, climactic reveal, director Craig David Wallace — working from a screenplay that he cowrote with Ian Malone — makes the full ride worth taking nevertheless. Kate (Lora Burke) is trying to give her daughter Beth (Tessa Kozma) a happy ninth birthday party, but Kate isn’t having it. She wants to be with her father, who is in prison for killing a child. The mother and daughter are staying in a safe house located in the woods with her daughter, with law enforcement agent Hal (Colin Paradine) as their contact with the outside world. Kate investigates around the house when she thinks she hears a noise, maybe even seeming a little paranoid, but it turns out someone really is out to get her . . . Let’s leave the plot information at that,

Devon Sawa Teases His Role In New Movie From The Makers Of ‘Texas Chainsaw Massacre’

Devon Sawa, who stars in season one of SyFy and USA’s “Chucky” series, recently revealed during an interview with the Boo Crew Podcast that he’s starring in the upcoming secret horror film from the makers of Texas Chainsaw Massacre. It’s basically about… it’s the makers of Texas Chainsaw Massacre… some of the makers, there’s a lot of makers of Texas Chainsaw Massacre, I’ve learned. My character is out in the woods, kidnapping hikers, killing them and rotting their bodies to feed to this monster. And I pick up a couple of hikers… it’s just the three of us in this bunker. It’s got a very psychological… my guy’s almost like a Kurtz character in Apocalypse Now… he’s gone a little bit kooky and it’s really cool. It’s a cool project.” At the moment, that’s all we know about the movie. We’ll keep you posted. In the meantime, Sawa, made famous by his roles in Final Destination and Idle Hands, stars

Blu-ray Review: The Collingswood Story (2002)

Rebecca (Stephanie Dees) is more than anxious to get the hell out of dodge and take up residence in a new off campus apartment house many states away from her hometown`. Thankfully she can still keep in touch with her Juggalo townie potential love interest Johnny (Johnny Burton) via a webcam based video messaging service (more on that in a bit). Speaking of Johnny, that hombre does not trust Rebecca a single bit… thanks in part to the advice of his perpetually wasted-off-his-ass buddy Billy (Grant Edmonds and his balls), so he decides to hire an online psychic, Madam Vera (Diane Behrens) to hopefully straighten things out (an amateur Don Ho and the American antecedent to Alan Moore are also involved). Of course this all goes completely to shit, as the psychic reveals that Rebecca has just moved to the most evil place in all of New Jersey… and that’s sayin’ somethin’… Collingswood (a mere “G” away from a Dan
