With the premiere of The Last Voyage of the Demeter on the horizon this August, I sat down with makeup artist Göran Lundström to discuss the incredible transformation of Javier Botet into Dracula. Directed by André Øvredal, the movie is based on a single chilling chapter, “The Captain’s Log,” from Bram Stoker’s classic novel Dracula, and tells the terrifying story of the merchant ship Demeter, which was chartered to carry private cargo—fifty unmarked wooden crates—from Carpathia to London. The crew boards the ship, not knowing the horrors that await them. The Last Voyage stars Corey Hawkins (In the Heights, Straight Outta Compton) as Clemens, a doctor who joins the Demeter crew, and Aisling Franciosi (Game of Thrones, The Nightingale) as an unwitting stowaway. Back in 2001, we reported on BuzzFeed artist Adam Ellis‘ spooky-as-hell social media posts labeled “Dear David” that went viral. The posts/updates told about the paranormal activity in his home and the sightings of a child’s ghost. We reported the same year that a movie was in the works. After two years, we finally have the film’s release date and the first trailer, as well as the new poster released today, which gives us a good look at the spirit, which is creepy as hell. I think it’s the eyes.
