Review: The “American Horror Stories” Premiere Feels Too Familiar

The AHS spin-off “American Horror Stories” has now premiered and is available on both FX and Hulu, and we’ve got thoughts. In the premiere, titled “Rubber(wo)Man”, a young woman (Sierra McCormick) and her two dads (Matt Bomer and Gavin Creel )move into the infamous “Murder House” from season one of “AHS.” Her dark killer instinct comes out as she discovers the gimp suit worn by Tate. You may remember that anyone who dies inside the house, has their spirit trapped there forever, that’s key to the story as the body count quickly rises in the premiere. “American Horror Stories” has been described as delving into “myths, legends, and more.” But we see none of that in the premiere. What we get is kill after kill that feels too familiar. It’s just like another episode of “Murder House,” but with a female serial killer instead of Tate. I can’t say I’m impressed. Much of Ryan Murphy’s “AHS” and “American Horror Stories”

Movie Review: Great White (2021)

It never fails, if I see the words “based on a true story” and “shark” in the same sentence, I am automatically excited, so when I heard about director Martin Wilson’s Great White I had to see it. In the film, “seaplane operators and couple, Kaz Fellows (Katrina Bowden) and Charlie Brody (Aaron Jakubenko), along with their three passengers, Joji Minase (Tim Kano), his wife Michelle (Kimie Tsukakoshi), and hand Benny (Te Kohe Tuhaka) set out on a flight to the picturesque Hell’s Reef. Soon their idyllic trip turns into a fight for survival when they become stranded miles from shore and in grave danger from what lurks just below the surface. Their only chance of survival is to get to the beach, but with two Great White sharks hunting them, the odds are not in their favor. What ensues is a battle for survival of epic proportions against nature’s perfect predator.” This movie doesn’t dick around. It’s action and

Blu-ray Review: Spiral: From the Book of Saw

Directed by Darren Lynn Bousman’s (Saw II, Repo! The Genetic Opera), Spiral: from the Book of Saw is approaching Blu-ray and DVD release. I’ve been eagerly awaiting the release since the moment the news broke, I’ve long been a fan of Chris Rock, Samuel L. Jackson, and Bousman. Last night, I grabbed some snacks and settled down to check it out. But did it live up to the hype? Warning! Spoilers The movie follows Zeke (Chris Rock), a detective who has long been an outcast in his precinct after he ratted out his partner for murdering an innocent man. Saddled with a new partner, Detective William Schenk (Max Minghella), Zeke is sent to a crime scene where a man was hung by his tongue before being hit by a train. But it’s not just any man, it’s a cop and a close friend of Zeke’s. Soon bodies begin to stack up and body parts begin to be delivered to Zeke.
