To celebrate Alien, here are ten of our favourite props, costumes and pieces of monstrous memorabilia from the terrifying sci-fi movie series which collectors snapped up at auction. (Image: Profiles in History) Brett’s Nostromo crew cap (Alien) This Nostromo crew cap was worn by cult actor Harry Dean Stanton as engineering technician Brett in Alien. When Stanton auditioned for the part, his first words to director Ridley Scott were “I don’t like sci-fi or monster movies.” Nonetheless, he won the role and was famously dispatched by the creature whilst searching for the ship’s cat Jones. The Director’s Cut of the film featured a deleted scene in which Ripley later discovers Brett’s fate – to be transformed into an egg containing a face-hugging

So ironically, two days ago I was watching Clive Barker’s Hellraiser. I watched it because the iconic film turns 30 this year and being nostalgic is always fun. Then yesterday, figuratively shooting across my desk, came this news about The Priest, Pinhead himself. To celebrate the 30th anniversary of this horror icon, the folks at Composite Effects are working with Clive Barker to produce a limited run of 30 signed and numbered masks based off of Clive Barker’s original “Hell Priest” design sketches! Each mask is hand-made with meticulous care and attention to detail. Once the 30th piece is finished, the mold will be smashed in a ritual of rage and release. Along with a signed certificate of authenticity, a piece of the mold will be included with each finished mask, a sharp reminder of both pain and pleasure. Pricing and availability will be announced at Transworld. Transworld attendees will have the first opportunity to purchase on Thursday (March 23).

Well hello my Little Monsters. As you may have just seen above, a deliciously dark and scary new poster for Alien: Covenant has just been released. This image seems to be a xenomorph depiction of “The Gates of Hell” by Rodin. If you are not familiar with it, Google it, because it’s an astounding sight to behold. Perhaps this image is meant to signify the “hell” that will rain down upon the characters in this prequel to Scott’s 1979 film Alien. I don’t know about any of you, but with each trailer, image or poster that gets released for this movie, I start fiending like crazy. AND WE ARE STILL ALMOST TWO LONG MONTHS AWAY FROM THE RELEASE DATE! Whew…sorry about that, but I am seriously psyched to see this new installment of the Alien franchise. I think I’m beginning to understand how Renton from Trainspotting felt when he was trying yo kick the skag. Maybe that’s overstating it, but

Greetings my Little Monsters. I see you have returned to find out which wonderful woman of the horror genre is in the spotlight today. As you have already seen, this week’s Woman Crush is the immensely talented Adrienne Barbeau. Adrienne is a California girl, born and raised in the city of Sacramento. Her career began when she started touring with the San Jose Civic Light Opera in 1963. It was when she went on tour through Southeast Asia with a musical comedy revue, to provide entertainment for military personnel, that Adrienne truly fell in love with acting. She moved to New York in the late 60’s to further pursue her dream of acting. And as many actors and actresses must do, she took a job that would pay the bills while auditioning for roles. One job she held while living in New York, was as a go-go dancer for a particular infamous organization. I won’t give their name, but I’ll

MTV’s slasher remake of Wes Craven’s SCREAM ended last in bloodshed and horror with last October’s Halloween Special. The TV-movie came after a suspenseful season of the fan-fav show. Past criticisms of the show, such as the very low bodycount totals, were put to rest with the film as it brought a hefty six corpses with its finale. The next season which was already reported to be a short 6 episode one, will be helmed with different showrunners and possibly a different direction due to the departure of series vet. Tracy Middendorf (Wes Craven’s New Nightmare). Does Middendorf’s departure mean her character has been murdered like in Craven’s slasher? Time will tell. Middendorf’s departure was confirmed via Twitter earlier this month The MTV series’ predecessor, the SCREAM film franchise, followed the story of Sidney Prescott as she and anybody in contact with her were terrorized and killed by the Ghost-faced killer. Prescott’s mother proved to be motive for the killing

Hello my Little Monsters. Today I greet you with a heavy heart, since the art world has lost a legendary member of its ranks, Bernie Wrightson. Bernie had retired in January of this year, citing health issues he had experienced following brain surgery. Sadly, earlier today he lost his battle with brain cancer. Bernie got his start as an illustrator for The Baltimore Sun, but it was a chance meeting with his one of his major artistic influences (and one of my personal favorites), Frank Frizetta, that inspired him to delve into comic book art. Bernie’s first endeavor for DC Comics was creating the art for a story in the March/April 1968 issue of House of Mystery (No. 179), entitled “The Man Who Murdered Himself”. Three years later Bernie would team with writer Len Wein to create arguably hist most famous creation Swamp Thing for the July 1971 issue of DC’s House of Secrets (No. 92). Bernie had done the

Yes my Little Monsters, as I have previously reported, Ridley Scott is planning ahead and already has a follow up to Alien: Covenant on deck and ready to begin shooting next year. Scott’s Alien franchise prequel trilogy would be rounded out with the inclusion of Alien: Awakening. But it appears that the order of the film trilogy’s chronology is different than fans would have anticipated. Scott spoke with Fandango recently and stated, “It will go Prometheus, Awakening, Covenant“, thus making this next possible film in the series both a prequel AND a sequel. Scott’s motivation for this next film likely mirrored the feelings of Prometheus fans when he expressed, “I’d love to explore where the hell [Dr. Shaw] goes next and what does she do when she gets there, because if it is paradise, paradise can not be what you think it is. Paradise has a connotation of being extremely sinister and ominous … I know where it’s going. I
