Movie Review: The Brutal Action-Thriller ‘SISU’ Is F*cking Fantastic!

Unlike most of our reviews, this SISU review contains some spoilers because, damn it, I need to talk about this movie! Let’s start at the beginning, with the film’s name. “Sisu is a Finnish concept described as stoic determination, tenacity of purpose, grit, bravery, resilience, and hardiness, and is held by Finns to express their national character. There is no translation for the word.” Written and directed by Jalmari Helander (interview) and produced by Petri Jokiranta, SISU stars Jorma Tommila, Aksel Hennie, Jack Doolan, Onmi Tommila, and Mimosa Willamo. Set in during WWII, a gold prospector (Jorma Tommila) crosses paths with a squad of Nazis in northern Finland. Once they learn that the man is carrying gold, they set out to steal it. The indie horror game Iron Lung is getting a feature film adaptation from YouTube’s content creator Markiplier, whose real name is Mark Fischbach. He penned the script and will direct as well as star in the film alongside Caroline Rose Kaplan (The Plot Against America, “Orange is the New Black”). David Szymanski created the game released in 2022 in which the player controls an unnamed convict who explores an ocean of blood on a desolate moon in a rusty submarine nicknamed the “Iron Lung.” The YouTube star is also producing the film alongside Will Hyde and Jeff Guerrero. The first teaser trailer has now debuted (below) for the film adaptation of Iron Lung, which is currently in production.

The cast of Peacock’s upcoming series “Hysteria!” just keeps getting more impressive. The latest star to join the cast is none other than horror legend Bruce Campbell! ‘Nefarious’ Star Jordan Belfi Discusses The Film In Our Interview

The horror-thriller Nefarious is getting rave reviews from critics and audiences alike, including from us. After watching it, I made it my mission to talk with both of the film’s stars, Sean Patrick Flanery and Jordan Belfi, who plays the role of Dr. James Martin, the psychiatrist responsible for deciding if the demon Nefarious truly possesses Flanery’s character Edward or if it’s a clever ruse. In the film, “On the day of his scheduled execution, a convicted serial killer (Flanery) gets a last-minute, court-ordered psychiatric evaluation. The killer astonishes visiting psychiatrist Dr. James Martin (Belfi) by insisting that instead of trying to avoid his execution, he is, in fact, a demon—Nefarious—who wants his execution to go forward. During my interview with Belfi, who you’ll recognize as a series regular on “Entourage,” we talked about some of the dark subjects in the film, including the death penalty and abortion, as well as the emotional challenges of making a film like this.
