Amazon Studios has ordered the genre series “The Horror of Dolores Roach,” based on the hit “Gimlet” podcast, with the show premiering exclusively on Prime Video. Featuring an eight-episode first season, the series is a contemporary spin on Sweeney Todd and will feature macabre tales of love, betrayal, and cannibalism. Justina Machado, star of The Purge: Anarchy and Final Destination 2, will lead the cast of the series that also includes Alejandro Hernandez (“Gotham”), K. 2021 saw the premiere of Epix’s brilliant adaptation of Stephen King’s Jerusalem’s Lot, and the prequel to Salem’s Lot, “Chapelwaite,” which landed the second spot on our “Top 10 Shows of 2021” list. For a lot of people, their introduction to horror was R.L. Stine’s Goosebumps book series, which spawned the TV series that aired in the 90s and two films. Well, it’s back to introduce a new generation to the genre with a live-action revival series coming to Disney+. The ten episodes first season will center on five-high schoolers who accidentally set loose the forces of evil and have to team up to set things right. The series will pay homage to the books as well as focus on the relationships between all of the kids. Nick Stoller and Rob Letterman (director of the first film), will serve as both writers and executive producers on the show, with Stoller executive producing via Stoller Global Solutions. Letterman will also direct the first episode. Neal H. Shudder announced today that they have acquired The Cellar, from critically-acclaimed Irish writer-director Brendan Muldowney ahead of the film’s world premiere at SXSW. Filmed on location in Roscommon, Ireland, The Cellar tells the story of Keira Woods (Elisha Cuthbert), whose daughter mysteriously vanishes in the cellar of their new house in the country. Not only has the sequel got its official title, Meg 2: The Trench, it’s also begun production, with Ben Wheatley (High-Rise) directing. Variety reports that Meg 2: The Trench has started filming in the U.K., with Jason Statham and Bingbing Li expected to reprise their roles. It’s been four years since we entered “The Further” in James Wan‘s Insidious: The Last Key. Well, get ready to enter “The Further” once more in the upcoming fifth film of the franchise. AMC is working on expanding its Walking Dead universe as much as possible and is preparing many spinoffs for when the main series ends. One of these is Tales of the Walking Dead, which is set to be an anthology focusing on different characters in each episode. This deviates from the usual model, but it could serve to flesh out characters and tease future storylines. Could it Explore Different States? The Walking Dead franchise is already doing what it can to appeal to people from a diverse range of geographical locations, and this could set up potential visits to different states or even other countries in future spinoffs. AMC officially licensed numerous games to spread the word about the series, and all these offerings have been well-received by players all over the world. Most recently, players have had the option of the mobile augmented reality offering, The Walking Dead: Our World, or the official Walking Dead slot game from Playtech.
