Earlier this week I sat down for an interview with best-selling author Steve Alten, the writer behind The Meg book series, which inspired the 2018 movie of the same name, starring Jason Statham. Alten informed us that the sequel was entering production. Today we can report that Kill List, High-Rise, and Rebecca director Ben Wheatley has now come on board to direct The Meg 2, which Alten describes as “much darker.” The news came from THR who also reports that Jason Statham is expected to return in a capacity that is “creatively involved,” with the movie adapted by Dean Georgaris and Jon Hoeber and Erich Hoeber. There is no word yet if anyone else is returning to reprise their roles. The Meg sunk its teeth into box offices bringing in over $500 million worldwide. He also has an amazing new interactive website Sea Monster Cove that puts you in the water with ancient sea monsters, features a new exclusive web series, a video game, and a library of Alten’s novels, all for $9.95 a month. It’s continually evolving and adding new aquariums, new monsters, new books, and new series episodes. Before I sat down with Alten for an interview I explored the site, called Sea Monster Cove. The next installment of the Evil Dead franchise is headed your way. Directed by Lee Cronin (The Hole in the Ground), however, the sequel will not star Bruce Campbell or be set in the infamous cabin, word is, it will be set in a high rise. “I’m confident I’m going to do something that’s both familiar and refreshing. I’m gonna deliver a rollercoaster of horror,” Lee Cronin recently told BD’s The Boo Crew Podcast. “That’s what the goal is here. Relentless. Not stopping to explain too much. It needs to be extremely visceral, highly entertaining, properly scary. To push boundaries, that’s important as well.” Talking with AL.com earlier this week, Bruce Campbell who is producing the film gave more details, revealing that Evil Dead Rise, will feature a female heroine like the 2013 movie. They’re creepy and they’re kooky, “The Addams Family”! Earlier this year MGM brought back our favorite family with a new animated movie, but what fans really want is a new live-action revival and they just may be getting it! Deadline is reporting that Tim Burton (Yes, Burton!) is looking to bring a new live-action “Addams Family” series to fans. The site has reported that Burton is currently negotiating to executive produce and possibly direct all of the episodes of this new take on the franchise. Alfred Gough and Miles Millar (“Smallville”) have already signed on as writers and showrunners for the MGM TV project, which is searching for a place to call home. Word is, the series may potentially be snatched up by Netflix.
