Movie Review: [REC] 4: Apocalypse (2014)

‘[REC] 4: Apocalypse’, the follow up to 2012’s ‘[REC] 3: Genisis’, follows TV reporter Angela Vidal (Velasco) as she is rescued from a quarantined, zombie infested building. Angela is then transported, along with the men who rescued her, to a converted oil tanker out at sea. The boat has been converted into a floating medical research lab. The doctors on board believe that Angela may be carrying the key to curing the virus, a parasite. When someone lets loose an infected test subject, the virus spreads through the passengers, Angela and a few uninfected survivors must band together and fight to survive. Something tells me we will see another movie in the franchise, the ending was left open and set up perfectly for another movie, which I would be happy to watch. Director Jaume Balaguero co-wrote ‘[REC] 4’ along side Manu Diez, who also wrote ‘[REC] 2’, did an amazing job of creating a zombie/infection movie that really makes for

Damn The Dead by Phillip Tomaso

Phillip Tomasso is a fairly prolific author, especially in horror/supernatural categories. I added Damn the Dead to my reading queue months ago, and am just getting around to reading it. Evidently, although it is his new Arcadia series, it is a continuation in the sense that one of the main characters is from his Vaccination trilogy. That book is also on my to read list, but as I had scheduled Damn the Dead for this week it appears we’ll be looking at just how well this book stands apart from its predecessor. Synopsis: *Damn The Dead marks the beginning of an exciting new stand-alone series from Phillip Tomasso and takes place some 3 years after the conclusion of the best-selling Vaccination Trilogy. Even in the heat of the zombie apocalypse, a time must come to rebuild. Charlene McKinney and her friends are on the run in the mountain ranges of North Carolina. They’ve stolen an 18 wheeler filled with food

The New ‘Friday the 13th’ Will Not Be A…

Little information has been released about the new ‘Friday the 13th’ movie that is being directed by David Bruckner (V/H/S). It had been rumored that it would be a found footage film. Brad Fuller (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), a producer for the 2016 film, has stated that it will NOT be found footage. “I could just say that for a long time we were stalled…” Fuller continues (during an interview with Shock Till You Drop) “…the film was going to be a found footage movie and that was a road that we went down and tried to figure that out. Ultimately, I think Michael, Drew and I felt that we couldn’t figure out, so we kind of jettisoned that whole notion and we had to start over. We’re in the latter phases of that starting over and hopefully we’re getting a script in the next month or two, and we’ll go back to Crystal Lake.” I’m very happy to hear

’28 Weeks Later’ Is Finally Getting A Sequel

It’s been eight years since ’28 Weeks Later’, the sequel to ’28 Days Later’, was released. Now it seems a third movie in the franchise may actually be coming . The new addition to the zombie/outbreak franchise will be titled ’28 Months Later’. The idea for the sequel came to Alex Garland, who wrote the script for ’28 Days Later’, while he was filming his new movie ‘Ex Machina’. Garland shared his idea with Andrew Macdonald, producer of both ’28 Days Later’ and ’28 Weeks Later’, who will be producing the new sequel. Alex Garland Garland has made it clear that he wants little to do with ’28 Months Later’, but does feel that it will make a great movie. He had this to say: “About two years ago, Danny [Boyle] started collaborating on the potential to make Trainspotting 2,” Garland explained. “In that conversation, an idea for ’28 Months’ arrived. I had a funny idea. I had a sort

Movie Review: Area 51 (2015)

‘Area 51’ was written by Christopher Denham along with Oren Peli, who also directed this found footage film. ‘Area 51’ follows three conspiracy theorist friends as they plot to break into Area 51. The friends are joined by a woman who has inside knowledge of the base. The guys break into the home of a high ranking employee of the base to get his his access card and fingerprints. Reid (Reid Warner), Darrin (Darrin Bragg) and Nikki (Nikka Far) make their way to the base. Once inside they are split up when guards pursue them. Reid and Nikki find incredible and disturbing evidence of extraterrestrials inside the base. The group has accidentally let out a very dangerous creature. Let’s begin with the cinematography. ‘Area 51’ takes found footage to a whole new level and it was a horrible idea. The movie left me nauseous, my head spinning and me very irritated. Out of an hour and a half of footage
