Action star Jason Statham has joined the cast of the giant shark film Meg. The film, based on Steve Alten’s New York Times best-selling novel, will be directed by Jon Turteltaub and written by James Vanderbilt (Independence Day: Resurgence).
Which role Statham will play has not been announced, but it is probable that he will play the lead, Jonas Taylor. In the novel, Taylor finds himself “face-to-face with the largest, most ferocious predator in the history of the animal kingdom while diving during a mission. The sole survivor of the mission, Taylor is haunted by what he’s sure he saw but can’t prove exist -Carcharodon Megalodin.” Written off as a crackpot, suffering from P.T.S.D.,Taylor refuses to give up and sets out to prove that he isn’t crazy and that the shark, big enough to swallow a truck, is very real.
Statham, known for his skills as a fighter, has starred in many films including the Crank franchise, The Expendibles films, Fast & Furious 6, 7 and the upcoming 8th installment, and The Transporter franchise.
