Jurassic World writer Colin Trevorrow and producer Frank Marshall confirmed via Twitter that J.A. Bayona has signed on to direct Jurassic World 2, which will open in theaters on June 7, 2018.
Steven Spielberg and Trevorrow, who co-wrote the script with his partner Derek Connolly, will both be serving as executive producer on the sequel. Stars Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard will both be reprising their roles in part 2.
The Spanish director began drawing attention for 2007’s dark horror film The Orphanage. And was nominated for an Oscar for his tsunami film The Impossible in 2012. Since then he’s been a hot commodity in Hollywood. In all Bayona has received sixteen awards and nominations, according to his IMDb page.
His latest film, A Monster Calls, will open in theaters October 12, 2016. It centers on a young boy who seeks the help of a tree monster to cope with his single mother’s terminal illness.
