Even if you have never delved into the dark world of Creepypasta, you will recognize the name of the pale skinned, faceless legend, Slender Man. The original Slender Man legend was created by Something Awful forum’s user Eric Knudsen – under the name Victor Surge – while entering a contest for supernatural photography in 2009. As part of his submission he gave a backstory to his mysterious subject, with no idea how quickly the legend would spread.
Screen Gems will soon bring the Slender Man to life in a new film according to ComicBook.com. The film, set to begin filming this Fall and see release in the Fall of next year, will be penned by David Birke (13 Sins).
Some details surrounding Slender Man change depending on the storyteller, including the spelling of his name (Slender Man, Slenderman), but some things are always the same, he always wears a dark suit, and has abnormally long arms and legs and a featureless face. He appears to older kids, teens and young adults and often appears in abandoned places.
Like the plot of a horror movie two real life girls were convinced that Slender Man was very real and that he would hurt their families if they did not make a human sacrifice to him. On May 31, 2014, after months of planning, the two girls lured the victim into the woods, stabbed her 19 times and left her for dead. Somehow the victim found the strength to crawl out of the woods. A bicyclist came across the girl laying in the middle of a path and called for help. It’s a miracle that the victim survived and has since recovered.
This is not the first time Slender Man has been the star of a film. Last year, Always Watching: A Marble Hornets Story saw release. And earlier this year, HBO announced its upcoming documentary Beware the Slenderman. Slender Man even has two video games of his own. It seems the creepy character will be every where the next two years.
