Back in March we reported that Flatliners is getting a remake. In April we posted an update announcing that The Vampire Diaries’ Nina Dobrev had joined the remake’s cast. Well, today we have big casting news. Kiefer Sutherland, who played the role of Nelson in the original film, has committed and entered final negotiations to return for the new movie, according to Deadline.
Sutherland will join Dobrev, Ellen Page, Diego Luna, Kiersey Clemens and James Norton in the remake, directed Neils Arden Oplev (Mr. Robot) based on the script penned by Ben Ripley (Source Code). Laurence Mark and Michael Douglas will be producing. Filming for Flatliners is slated to begin this July.
Kiefer Sutherland, Kevin Bacon, Julia Roberts, William Baldwin and Oliver Platt starred in Joel Schumacher’s 1990 supernatural thriller about a group of medical students who put their training to the test. Each one of the friends take their turn dying, briefly, to see what is on the other side, only to have their pasts come back to haunt them when they are resuscitated.
I’m always nervous when a great film is being remade, but having the original actors on board seems to make things a little better. Let’s hope that they do it justice.
