Graphic Novel co-creator Garth Ennis will be working along side Seth Rogan and Evan Goldberg on the script for the pilot of AMC’s tv adaption of the graphic novel ‘Preacher’. The guys at ‘Bleeding Cool’ have pulled a ballsy move by sharing sections from the script and script meetings via Twitter.
Some fans are overjoyed with the script, others feel it may stray too far from the graphic novels created by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillion .
The ’90s comic book series ‘Preacher’ tells the story of a preacher in a small Texas town who mergers with an entity that has escaped heaven. He has the ability to make anyone do what he commands. Jesse Custer “the preacher” , Tulip O’Hare and Cassidy,a vampire, team up and go on a journey to find God. The series is hailed as a favorite by many comic book fans.
AMC has shown dark shows before, such as The Walking Dead, but fans of ‘Preacher’ know that the subject matter in the graphic novels are not only dark, but controversial. Of course, Rogan has never had a problem with being controversial, take ‘The Interview’ for example. The big questions are how much will AMC tone down the show and how true will he stay to the graphic novels?
We now know who will be playing the main role of Jesse Custer aka ‘Preacher’. Seth Rogan announced the news via Twitter that the role has been given to Dominic Cooper. Cooper is a well known actor, who has had parts in movies such as: ‘Dracula Untold’, ‘Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter’ and ‘Captain America: The First Avenger’.
‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ actress Ruth Negga has been cast in the role of Tulip O’Hare. In the comics, Tulip is a beautiful woman who’s tough as nails. She also happens to be the girlfriend of the main character, Jesse (Preacher).
The role of Eugene Root (aka Arseface) will be played by Ian Colletti. Arseface is horribly disfigured, with a severe speech impediment. He blew his face off, trying to copy his favorite musician, Curt Cobain. Now he’s the local Frankenstein.
‘True Blood’ actress Lucy Griffiths has joined the cast of ‘Preacher’. Griffiths will play Emily Woodrow. Emily is the second love interest in the adaption.
Cassidy, Jesse’s right hand vampire, will be played by English actor Joseph Gilgun. You may remember Gilgun from his role as convict leader in 2012’s space thriller ‘Lockout’. He also stars along side Vin Diesel in ‘The Last Witch Hunter’ coming out later this year.
Jesse’s nemesis is a cowboy type killer referred to as “Saint of Killers”. His one goal, to hunt down and kill Jesse. There have been several rumors about who will play the role, but no one has officially been named.
‘Preacher’ has begun filming and is set to premier in 2016. We’ll keep you posted as more information becomes available.
