Superheroes to Super-Primates: Matt Shakman Takes the Reins of ‘Planet of the Apes’
Matt Shakman is officially trading the Marvel “Sacred Timeline” for a world where humanity is firmly at the bottom of the food chain. 20th Century Studios has tapped the director to shepherd the next installment of the Planet of the Apes franchise. A ‘Fantastic’ Reunion Shakman isn’t making the jump to the forbidden zone alone. He is reuniting with screenwriter Josh Friedman. Friedman penned both Shakman’s Fantastic Four: First Steps and the previous simian hit, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. Friedman has become the franchise’s secret weapon. Kingdom swung through the box office to a tune of $400 million on a $160 million budget. With this duo at the helm, the studio is clearly looking to maintain the momentum of a series that has grossed over $2 billion globally across the last 15 years. The Pedigree of a Showrunner While plot details are currently being kept in a high-security enclosure, Shakman’s track record suggests a blend of high-concept

Recently a new arcane anthology flick was laid before my eerie eyeballs… The Actor’s Curse: A Tale of Twisted Fate, to be precise… so let’s give it the ol’ revoltin’ review! Ahhh showbiz… it can be glitzy and glamorous, and it can be sleazy and laden with debauchery… naturally we are going to go with that latter portion, with a nice dash of my personal fav, supernatural shenanigans! We begin with Ye olde Wraparound Segment in which a frustrated actor (Joe DeBartolo) decides to do a little bit of soul searching and put pen to paper to craft some terror tales about the various types of shit-heels he’s encountered in his career (all presented in shorts from various directors)… Derek Braasch’s The Director’s Demise concerns a real shit wipe of a director (Robert Gutierrez-Spagnoli) who brings in a new actress who is more than game to partake in his brand of hostile filmmaking… but is she just an actress with

After making audiences collectively cringe at the sight of a cheese grater in 2023’s Evil Dead Rise, director Lee Cronin is trading urban high-rises for ancient sand. Having turned demonic family trauma into a $147 million profit, Cronin has been handed the keys to the Universal tomb. And his latest project, The Mummy, is currently haunting theaters and prepares to invade homes on Digital this May. This Isn’t Your 90s Adventure. If you’re expecting a charming, wisecracking Brendan Fraser, you’re looking in the wrong sarcophagus. Revealed in late 2024 as a complete reimagining of the classic monster, Cronin’s trade humor for haunting terror. According to Cronin, this version is “unlike any Mummy movie you’ve ever laid eyeballs on.” In his world, that usually means those eyeballs are lucky to stay in their sockets. The film returns the character to its roots: a terrifying, ancient force of nature. The Cast of Casualties The story centers on a family that probably should

Director Baltasar Kormákur is taking us to the edge with his new thriller Apex, which is now streaming on Netflix. So, the question is, is it any good? We will explore that in this review. From Mourning to Manhunt The narrative follows a grieving adrenaline junkie (Charlize Theron) who ventures into the wilderness to find closure after her boyfriend’s fatal climbing accident. Her path crosses with a deceptively charismatic stranger (Taron Egerton) whose “nice guy” facade quickly dissolves, revealing an apex predator with a stomach-turning penchant for turning his victims into jerky, which he sells in town.
