Blu-ray Review: Grizzly (1976)

After Don Stober (Andrew Prine) spits out one of, if not the most laid back environmental preservation speech ever (doubtless the helicopter he is piloting is nowhere near as high as him), we are treated to a hell of a whimsical musical ovation for a film that concerns a giant bear eating the ever-loving fuck outta people, but I digress… Enter: Smilin’ Mike Kelly (Pieces’ own Christopher George) and the other shit eatin’ grin wearing forest rangers in his employ… but fret not my wicked weirdos, those smiles will soon be wiped away, because lovely ladies are turning up mauled into hamburger thanks to the claws of a fifteen-foot grizzly bear. As the body count rises (more on that in a bit) Kelly, Stober, and resident Naturalist Arthur Scott (Richard Jaeckel) step up to the plate and attempt to end the murderous rampage of that bitch of a berserk bear! They are going to need a bigger pic-a-nic basket… Ya

Sony Screen Gems is fast-tracking The Bride with filming set to begin later this summer. The studio is hoping The Bride will kick off a new franchise. The Bride is not the only vampire flick headed your way, the MCU’s highly anticipated movie Morbius is coming, there’s Jamie Foxx’s Day Shift starring Snoop Dogg, Dark West, and Gary Dauberman’s Salem’s Lot reboot, just to name a few. Blu-ray Review: Day of the Animals (1977)

Outdoors-man Steve Buckner (the ever-reliable Christopher George) treks into the mountains with a rando assortment of hikers comprised of TV actors, Georges wife Lynda (whom he also co-starred with in the absolutely sublime slasher, Pieces) and Leslie Neilson (eventually doing a pre-Airplane/Police Squad/Naked Gun heel turn… but more on that in a bit). As science wouldn’t have it, the animals on that there mountain are going blood fuckin’ simple thanks to toxins from the sun’s radiation leaking through a hole in the ozone layer (but only those at 5000 feet elevation are affected)… but first the group must wander around and make with the small talk for a sight. When the animals do begin their assault the group is left rather defenseless thanks to Steve’s bullshit rule about not carrying firearms into the woods… although to be fair, how would he guess that such a ludicrous series of events was about to go down? As much as a threat as

Suki Waterhouse Enrolls In A Haunted Boarding School In ‘Seance’

Suki Waterhouse (The Bad Batch, Assassination Nation) is set to star as the protagonist in Simon Barrett‘s horror directorial debut, Seance, EW reports. “Seance is a murder mystery set at a girls boarding school where a young woman recently died,” says Simon Barrett. “Our hero moves into her dorm room, which is believed to be haunted, and sets about trying to find out what happened.” “She was the first person who signed on,” Barrett states. “I was looking at Suki originally to play Alice — the bully, the leader of the girls at the school. I thought of Camille as an underdog. Suki is a model, she has such a striking look, I was not certain how that would work. Then I sat down and talked with her for like three hours, and she had an interesting take on Camille and totally got the jokes in the film. She honestly was the only person who thought the script was funny.

This April, a couple discovers that a darkness lurks inside their new home in directors Robert Pulcini and Shari Springer Berman‘s horror film Things Heard & Seen, starring Academy Award®-nominee Amanda Seyfried and James Norton. Written by Pulcini and Berman, based on the critically acclaimed novel All Things Cease to Appear by Elizabeth Brundage, the film centers on Catherine Clare (Amanda Seyfried) who reluctantly trades life in 1980s Manhattan for a remote home in the tiny hamlet of Chosen, New York, after her husband George (James Norton) lands a job teaching art history at a small Hudson Valley college. Even as she does her best to transform the old dairy farm into a place where young daughter Franny will be happy, Catherine increasingly finds herself isolated and alone. She soon comes to sense a sinister darkness lurking both in the walls of the ramshackle property-and in her marriage to George.
